3.0 out of 5 stars The Dead Love Longer 4 July 2012
By NYM
Format:Kindle Edition
A short story by Scott Nicholson, The Dead Love Longer isn't your normal "close the closet door before I go to bed scary" book I normally associate with Mr Nicholson. It's more about exploring the afterlife, consequences for your actions and how the supernatural can and cannot interact with our world (at least in the author's imagination).

All said an interesting read, but not one of my Nicholson favorites.

This is a short story by scott Nicholson about a private detective called Richard Steele, who has been murdered and most solve his own murder as a ghost who has passed to the other side. While attempting to do this on the other side his dead wife diana tries to get on revenge on him for his bad ways. Whilst in the land of the living is his girlfriend Lee,who he is trying to help with her dangerous situation at the same as sorting his own problems out.

This is a really great paranormal story which grips you from the start and all the way through the book. The characters also help with this as they are all very strong people throughout the book. Scott's writing is gripping funny and keeps you in suspense and is a great author. I would tell anybody to read this book as its a good read and its a short story aswell. I gave it a four star rating as it is the first book ive read from this author, and it was a taster to what im hoping is a big world of amazing reads from this author. So four stars and pick it up for a read.

This short story by Scott Nicholson is my first of the many novels and short stories by this author i have recently downloaded on to my kindle.Part detective, part paranormal this story is a lighthearted account of Richard Steel private detectives' soul as it waits to enter Heaven.Unfortunatly it's not that easy as he is sent back to solve his own murder. With a dead ex wife hot on his heels he must not only find his murderer but help save his girlfriend as well.
This is a very quick read that has wetted my appetite for more of the same.I give it 4* as it was enjoyable but not as good as other books i've read recently.

Richard Steele was a private investigator before he was shot dead. Now he has to make his mind up whether he wants to go to heaven or hell, and to go to heaven he first has to prove his worthiness by passing a test and solving his own murder.

Transparent Lovers is a novella of about (I'm guessing as I read it on my Kindle) 120-130 pages and was a very quick and humorous read which I greatly enjoyed.

I was surprised how quickly I became very involved in the characters lives (or un-lives as is the case for most of the characters in this book). I only kind of half liked Richard, the main character, at the beginning of the story, mainly because of his own thoughts and descriptions of himself, but as I read on and Richards girlfriend, Lee, became involved I found myself liking him much more.

Nicholson's storytelling always brings very vivid scenes into my mind and I can picture exactly where the characters are in detail without having to read pages and pages of descriptive text. The plot and storyline was funny, interesting and very different to most `afterlife' books I've read. There's plenty of cross-over appeal between genres such as crime investigation, romance and paranormal and if you're a lover of any of these genres, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy Transparent Lovers as much as I did.

I would definitely recommend this novella to 18+ readers and if you've never read any of Nicholson's work before, I think this would be a great place to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting paranormal noir novella 21 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover
Scott Nicholson's Transparent Lovers is an interesting paranormal noir novella, because it combines science fiction (or perhaps in this case it would be best to say fantasy) and noir elements in a charming way.

In my opinion Transparent Lovers is a bit different kind of science fiction, because it's a story about a private investigator, Richard Steele, who must solve his own murder after his death. If he doesn't solve his murder, he won't be able to enjoy the afterlife. He also has other things to worry about.

Transparent Lovers is an interesting and a bit twisted vision of life after death. It combines several different elements in an interesting way. It reminded me of the movie Beetlejuice which was directed by Tim Burton, but fortunately it was completely different.

The characters in this novella were interesting and they were part of the story's charm. It was interesting to read about Richard's caseworker and other persons.

I liked this novella, because the story was entertaining. I don't usually read much noir fiction, so it was nice to read a good and thoroughly enjoyable noir novella. I can recommend this novella to all readers who enjoy noir stories and supernatural elements.

I hadn't realized in my stinginess that there is not a limited supply of love, and that it flows through us from someplace beyond us, someplace better than us. And we are only conduits, and our job is to simply keep the pipeline open and let it gush instead of tightening the valves through our fears. "e;
