Every book I've read written by Douglas Kennedy (The Job, The Big Picture and this one) has been a can't put down experience -this bloke knows how to grab you quickly and keep you engaged throughout the story!

In this one an American ventures to Australia looking for adventure, and gets a whole lot more than bargained for. A bit more surrealistic than his other novels, but equally as entertaining.

My only complaint is that I read this in a day, and was left wanting more. If you're travelling this is the ideal book, a captivating quick read that never fails to entertain.

Enthralling 30 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
Yet another Douglas Kennedy story which captured my imagination from page one, scared me and thrilled me and left me wanting more. His books are truly the good read which everybody is looking for. His style is easy going and the stories just roll along, teasing and tempting you to read all the way to the end in one sitting.

Dead or Alive 14 April 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Nick begins his journey like a good comic albeit an out of work journalist scattering cutting one liners to all and the sun dryed. It is not long before we arrive at a comic fairground of a location to allow Kennedy full reign to his cracking wit. What makes this book so absorbing is this blend of of comedy and horror. He turns the scene to a horrific nightmare dense with a murdered innocence in heat and light. The slaughterhouse, the coagulating blood drying on the rotten flesh of butchered kangaroos destined for the towns processing plant , the towns industry. Welcome to hell with a coma enticing soundtrack for company. Welcome to where your wife beats you and pulls out entrails in her spare time, welcome to where the waste is processed on your back door. Welcome to sellafield ? no, Welcome to Wallanup.

Disappointing
I've loved all Douglas Kennedy's books. Except this one. I gave up after the first chapter. Too raw, rough and unsubtle.

Dead silly, dead boring
Thank goodness it was a short book because the silly story began to annoy rather than amuse after a while. Read more

I have left a review of this book already but I think it deserves another mention. It is absolutely hilarious - so many laughs and "OOHS" and "AHHS" - well worth reading. Read more
