More About the Author

I was born and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland but have lived in Essex for the last 33 years. I started writing in my early twenties but other interests seemed to get in the way and distracted me from further writing for a time. My favorite places include Suffolk, the Peak District, and Venice.
I have written a number of dramatic sketches and short stories but 'The Dead Lie Down' is my first novel and fulfills a long held ambition. A sequel is on the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars the dead lie down 13 May 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
not my usual book choice but it was recommended and so i gave it a go and i'm glad i did! it was a real page turner with characters that were real and believable. the scenes and descriptions were realistic and the dialogue easy to follow. a fast paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns and a central character who is both edgy and sympathetic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Gave up half way through 15 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Too too many cliches, he was a down and out, he was a soldier in Iraq with bad memories which he won't talk about but does, he has a special services buddy who mysteriously turns up just at the right time to save him, etc.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quite bland 6 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just couldn't get interested or excited about this book at all. One of those books where you wait for things to happen and they just don't. I never give up on a book but I could have easily done so with this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Started and finished fast 22 May 2013

Started and finished fast. Happened across a load of missed apostrophes only 4% in. If the author can't be arsed then neither can I

4.0 out of 5 stars New Start 20 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Interesting storyline and characters though I was confused sometimes with who was who and where they fit in. I will however put that down to the fact I had difficulty concentrating at times on the book. I could see this ending up as a series on television with the protagonists taking on different criminals every series. Highly recommend and I will certainly be checking out other stories from this author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor writing style 20 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Couldn't get past the first few pages due to the really bad writing style. At least it was only 99p wasted; the price says it all really.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very complicated plot 12 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one of the few books I've read that I felt I needed to start again at the beginning once I'd finished! The plot was very complicated, with lots of twists and turns - and were people REALLY what they seemed?? I found it frustrating when at least 2 people were mentioned by other characters and I didn't have a clue who they were. It turned out I hadn't forgotten their names, they just hadn't appeared in the book before! It took a while to work out what Thailand had to do with the story and there were several different sets of people who seemed to have nothing to do with the gunsmuggling, but which this came together later in the book. I thought it a tad far-fetched that 2 different people had different agendas of "revenge" in the story, but I suppose it did add to the twists and turns.
I became a bit annoyed at the flippancy between Adam and his female friend, Bel - childish name-calling, etc. The author perhaps wanted to create a "squirky" element to the book? I also was very irritated at the spelling and words left out - often "the" was missing in a sentence and "passed" used instead of "past", etc. I am not being picky as this happened several times throughout the book, so perhaps the proof reader didn't do their job?
Having said all that, I did enjoy the story which rattled along at a good pace, and I WILL re-read it at some time (as I do for every book I really like) and would read other books by this author.

This was a really good read, lots of twists and turns and an unexpected ending. When you start the book it is nothing really to do with the main story, but it slowly led into it. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed it -But!
It started off with promising then it meandered off course, and eventually became a bit too far fetched to be realistic, nevertheless it flowed along and made easy reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spell checker!
I enjoyed the story but really needed a better spell checker! Many misspelled words which is disappointing for a published book.
