More About the Author

Annie Francis-Clark is the pen-name of Judith Gordon who, as J A Gordon, has written four historical novels, the Chronicles of Eternity. She says, 'I'd spent the last six years with my head in the ancient world dealing with auxiliaries in the Roman Army, blood and guts and Nero and his excesses and I wanted to do something different for a change. Rowena's story came to me almost overnight. I sat down to write it straightaway. It was exhilarating and very enjoyable to write about a strong female character and to have it set in the modern world. This new book is much more frothy than my others but there's a shot of espresso in there too.'

Judith is married to Ray and joins him in fighting their two whippets, Hugo and Skye, for space on the sofa. Before she became a writer, she was a much travelled corporate barrister but now loves staying at home in Shropshire, hanging out with friends and sampling the excellent local pubs and restaurants.

An entertaining read full of feel good factor. A great holiday read or a rainy day curled up on the sofa.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a beautifully written romantic story or wants a feeling of romance awoken in them. This is a story that everyone can relate to in some way. I couldn't put it down until I had finished it and my friends have said the same. I felt all the richer for the experience. I can't wat for Annie's next novel.

My wife got this book but I decided to grab it first and read it in a couple of days. This was pretty unusual as I haven't read a book as quickly as that for a very long time and is a testament to the basic story line and the skilful use of chapters which made me want to know all the time what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the story but recognise that it is rather "girlie" which might make it difficult for me to recommend it to my male friends as it is clearly directed more at a female audience. A very good read!!

This book is a rollicking good read from start to finish. Once I had read the first chapter I could not wait to find out what happened next, becoming completely absorbed in Ro's changing fortunes and positively invested in her developing character. I often feel a bit short-changed by so called "chick lit" as I don't always find the situations credible nor the characters appealing but I found the world created in this work to be familiar, real and believable whilst the characters are interesting without being caricatures...It has lots of real life, identifiable grit, alongside some genuine glamour and sensuality.

The plot is satisfyingly complicated, as you would expect fom this accomplished author and each chapter ends on a note that makes you desperate to read the next one. The writing is brilliant. What I most enjoyed though, was the detail of Ro's life changing experiences; her job search, finding her feet in her new roles, her relationships with the new people she meets, the everyday detail of food, flowers and clothes.

Another reviewer has mentioned the inspirational descriptions of flowers and if you are at all interested in the art of flower presentation you will adore the fabulous descriptions of the arrangements created. I also loved the food in the book - there are some great recipes! Ro has a very distinctive fashion sense and I did enjoy reading about her clothes and the everyday choices she made about her self presentation. I think that is something we can all identify with and I have never read a book that details this so effectively or with such intelligence.

Ro's story is one that is utterly familiar in our time but it is given a bright, fresh perspective by this talented author. Women of a certain age will love but I do think there is a lot here for men too, as another reviewer has noted. A fun and memorable read.

I read this book in two days and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is certainly not my usual choice of book, but given the recommendation I thought I would buy a kindle edition. I found the book to be quite thought provoking and with the excellent, fluid writing style I was able to really get inside the mind of the main character and really feel for her. A chic-lit style which has a nice story line, defined characters and a happy ending.
