Product Description

Product Description

This is the second book in a trilogy describing human endeavour to colonise another world and contemplate escape from the solar system. Earth's failure to arrest adverse ecological trends catapulted a new space age to the highest priority. A fragile foothold was established on Mars during the first book - Initiation. The sequel deals with the fallout of human reaction to the discovery of another life form, and the schism which develops between the two planets. There had been such an emotional and promising beginning. A second discovery on Mars throws the tenuous relationship into potential meltdown. Ruthless 'entrepreneurs' on Earth complicate matters by flouting directives regarding the new life form known as The Continuance. Further investigation of the second discovery sends a very sobering message to Earth.

A seamless continuation of the authors first novel of this trilogy, 'Transition' introduces us to an ancient, space travelling race, who settled on Mars instead of Earth so as not to interfere with developing life there. Written in much the same style as the first book, it concentrates on mans developement of Mars and exploration of an alien civilisation that once lived there. The political intrigue on Earth is not forgotten, and there's an interesting 'secret agent' sub plot. This story just keeps me wanting to find out more, can't wait to read the third in the series. Excellent stuff.

Having read the first book in the trilogy, I was not disappointed with the sequel. The speculative science fits well with the fiction and the thriller plot. Some of the original characters remain and really grow in the imagination. There were new elements to this episode of the story. I particularly liked the short chapters, and the switching of location, giving space for contemplation and anticipation. I look forward to the next book and have no hesitation in recommending this book
