Before I bought the book, I read the description and I was pretty hooked already! I've always loved fantasy worlds and the escapism they bring, although admittedly it's been mostly limited to films recently rather than books as I haven't much time these days....which is where Darkslayer is fantastic! A lot of fantasy books are super long and I just look at their chunkyness going "I'm going to end up only reading half of this before life takes over" but this one is fantasy to its core and is a short, quick and easy read - awesome.

The first chapter launched into describing the two characters Melegal and Venir, and I love the in depth detail given to them and the city in which they are placed. As for the Royals, I just wanted to know more about them and who they were - the character line-up had gotten me hooked, as well as the challenges in the pub - particularly quick fence! I love the imagination that Halloran put into his work to create a new world that is familiar enough to imagine but different enough to be exciting.

The writing is, at times, a little amateurish, but if you can cope with the odd grammar or syntax mistake then you'll be just fine! I found that I ended up glazing over a lot of the little mistakes just to get at the storyline and character relations. And let's face it...that's what most of us are interested in anyway! I'd rather read a good story with amateur writing, than a boring drag of a tale with perfect script. ugh.

Overall, I have really loved getting involved in the Darkslayer world and I think that anyone interested in fantasy stories should give it a go - particularly as it's so digestable and short to read!

When I read the item description, and the comparisons to The Dark Elf Trilogy, I was immediately intrigued. Salvatore is one of my favourite writers and the way he mixes morality and cruelty is masterful.
I read The Darkslayer: Wrath of the Royals in one sitting. The prose and writing are both top notch, and there's a hint of James Clemens and Jordan in that the world building and expanse of land and characters are well thought out and layered.
I can't fault the writing, there are a few grammatical errors, but they don't detract from the pace and flow.

If you enjoy traditional, epic fantasy with a comfortable feel - this is the book for you.

Have read many books in my time but these were the first books i literally could not put down every character throughout the series captivated me to read on and on and noticed some people did not like the way the story was jumping from character to character for each chapter but i just thought it left on a cliffhanger which made you want more reading the second series and just don't want the series to end keep up the good work craig your on hell of a writer and should carry on doing what you do best might have to consider moving on to some of your other work once I have read the next book in the darkslayer series hope its not too long till you bring book 3 of the darkslayer series thumbs up my friend.

Excellent book, fast pace, and very far from being a Lords of the Rings copy. Halloran introduces a good range of strong characters who will take the series forwards and although it is fantasy/swords and sorcery, there is more to it. I like the way Halloran uses Gods but not as we know them. To a minor degree it reminded me a little of Vance and Niven without being a shadow of their work. Highly recommended with interesting twists in the plot which kept me reading. I look forward to reading more books i the series.
