The first chapter launched into describing the two characters Melegal and Venir, and I love the in depth detail given to them and the city in which they are placed. As for the Royals, I just wanted to know more about them and who they were - the character line-up had gotten me hooked, as well as the challenges in the pub - particularly quick fence! I love the imagination that Halloran put into his work to create a new world that is familiar enough to imagine but different enough to be exciting.
The writing is, at times, a little amateurish, but if you can cope with the odd grammar or syntax mistake then you'll be just fine! I found that I ended up glazing over a lot of the little mistakes just to get at the storyline and character relations. And let's face it...that's what most of us are interested in anyway! I'd rather read a good story with amateur writing, than a boring drag of a tale with perfect script. ugh.
Overall, I have really loved getting involved in the Darkslayer world and I think that anyone interested in fantasy stories should give it a go - particularly as it's so digestable and short to read!
I read The Darkslayer: Wrath of the Royals in one sitting. The prose and writing are both top notch, and there's a hint of James Clemens and Jordan in that the world building and expanse of land and characters are well thought out and layered.
I can't fault the writing, there are a few grammatical errors, but they don't detract from the pace and flow.
If you enjoy traditional, epic fantasy with a comfortable feel - this is the book for you.

If you like Conan the barbarian, you will love this. Easy to follow, some good dialogue, suitable for young adult readers.Published 3 months ago by Js Folkett
I loved everything about it...the characters, the storyline...it was so action packed, despite it being a relatively long read I was engaged throughout. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Laina
