The Darkness II is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release, The Darkness, and features an original story by acclaimed comic writer Paul Jenkins.
It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power and now The Darkness wants out.
A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to re-emerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.

This felt like half a game really. Or a demo. (when demo's were longer then 5 minutes) First off, you have very little scope to actually use your powers, the tentacle for swiping felt clumsy and weak to me, and you only have two abilities you can activate. That's a bit terrible, give your power then name "THE DARKNESS" and you can only think of two abilities for it? Cloaking, making shadows come to life, making people's shadows eat them, implode people, make enemies fight on your side (come to the dark side).
Then there is the length of the game, I was done in nearly just 6 hours. The single player is what i'm reviewing and that's how long it took me, multiplayer offers scope for 4 player coop and a few extra missions and whatnot. New characters with small amount of background info and unique weapons, might be fun. The whole thing felt very rushed any way, you went from fight to fight and never really got any real character development on any of the people around you.
Combat was fine, if a bit dull (not many abilities, samey guns, enemies that more or less melt before you), executions were quite satisfying but I would have liked a few more animation and for it to be randomised, not based on where you grab them, or you could add a mini game? higher score, cooler execution, more points?
The ending was annoying, I don't like cliffhangers, especially when it feels like half a game. Also, if the darkness had talked to us properly and not all voice in your head and sinister like then I might have let the whole thing go. But because it didn't we both got screwed, not very smart by a being supposedly as old as god or whatnot.

awesome but with letdowns

Illegal steam region lock for "The Darkness 2"

Attention works only in UK, Vorsicht nur in UK spielbar !
This game needs STEAM for activation, which controls your IP if you are in the UK. If you are elsewhere it stops installation. Read more
