Manufacturer's Description

The Darkness II is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release, The Darkness, and features an original story by acclaimed comic writer Paul Jenkins.

It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power and now The Darkness wants out.

A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to re-emerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.

Key Features:

  • Quad-Wielding Chaos: Slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with the Demon Arms while simultaneously firing weapons, adding a new dimension to the FPS category
  • Kill The Lights: Vicious, flesh-eviscerating supernatural powers only manifest in the absence of light so use or create shadows for a strategic advantage
  • Gripping Interactive Storytelling: Intense and personal story written exclusively for the game by acclaimed comic book author Paul Jenkins whose credits also include The Incredible Hulk, Wolverine and Hellblazer
  • Distinctive Graphic-Noir Style: Graphic novel shading and colour combined with the dramatic lighting of film noir make it feel as if you’re playing a graphic novel
  • Co-Op Campaign: Play as one of 4 unique characters, each capable of wielding weapons infused with Darkness Powers
  • Based on the comic book series created by Top Cow

Product Description

The Darkness 2 is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2007 release, The Darkness, and features an original story by acclaimed comic writer Paul Jenkins.

The Darkness 2 breaks out of the sea of conventional first-person shooters with its fervid Quad-Wielding gameplay, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with the use of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and engulfed in stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique that stays true to its comic book origins.

The Darkness 2 will feature award-winning comic book writer, Paul Jenkins, who will provide a tightly integrated narrative that weaves dark humor with hardcore tenderness

If you have been bored by FPS games as of late, then this game is for you.

It does almost everything right, the combat is amazing, you are given a multitude of powers, you can execute people to regain health, ammo, or power, you can throw black holes, you can channel dark energy through your guns, you can throw bodies and foreign objects at enemies. The game just does a fantastic job at making you feel powerful.

The Story is one of the best I have seen in a game, not as good as the first game, but considering how good the first game was, that is nothing to be ashamed of. It is still one of the best written and directed video games I have ever played. It makes you feel for the characters, you get to know little subtleties about them without even realising.

This game might not be for everyone. But if you are into fast paced energetic fun shooters. Or an emotional engaging immersive story. Then this game is for you.

The only shortfall of the game really is it's length. Which comes out at around 6 or 7 hours. But fear not, the game also has a separate co-op campaign mode which you can play online with 4 other people, or on your own. Which easily adds a few more hours onto the play time. There is also a new game plus mode.

This is a simplified (some will prefer the phrase dumbed-down) version of the first game in sequel form.

The original game had depth, character and atmosphere... then a bit of gore and gritty gunplay in that order. Darkness 2 has bucket loads of gore, over the top gunplay and grittyness.... then forgets what made the first game so good.

Don't get me wrong, the story here is not too shabby (it's well written and more of the same from the same universe) but if you have read the comics, or at the very least played The Darkness 1 you will be disappointed. This game just does not have the 'feel' of the first, and it's hard to put a finger on exactly what is wrong.. but I think it certainly begins with the linearity and the gameplay. Gone is the somewhat branching plot of the first game, with those pretty great-for-the-time open world areas that were only just beginning to creep into the FPS genre. The Darkness was long before the term 'FPS RPG' was used, clearly taking it's inspiration from great games such as the original Deus Ex. The game hard a foreboding atmosphere that was very close to the comics and the world of Jackie Estacado, and it felt authentic. The world in Darkness 2 does not feel authentic... it feels like a copy paste with polish to make some money. The gameplay is old after the first few gun fights, it is so typical and samey to the usual FPS games with auto-aim and insanely easy difficulty.

Fortunately for the developers, the writers knew what they were doing and the story saves this game a lot. It would probably have served better as a point and click adventure or a short tv series or something. To summarize, this is like when a classic film gets a sequel that wasn't really needed. if you want the atmosphere, story, gameplay and authenticity of the original game, you will be disappointed in this sequel.

i found this game extremely short, but it was very entertaining. the graphics were awesome like the previous game and the gore was awesome. It was'nt that hard at all really. I think they could of added some bosses to it at the end of the levels. Overall though i do reccomend to the first person shooter fans out there
