Book Description

Angel Olivia appears out of nowhere in front of Dark Warrior Aeron. She claims that she went through numerous obstacles just to come to see Aeron. Aeron, who had no interest in women before, is shaken after spending time with Olivia, who conveys her love to him with her purest heart. Aeron can’t accept her love since he is a sinner, and he does not think he is a match for an angel. At the same time, demon Legion becomes very jealous to see Aeron being so stirred by Olivia and eventually makes a deal with Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness, in an attempt to possess Aeron for herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! 24 Jun. 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The hero of this story is Gideon, keeper of Lies. For thousands of years he has been oppressed by his demon, unable to utter a single word of truth without excruciating pain, never able to tell his friends he loves them or a woman that she's beautiful. Gifted with the ability to discern truth from lie he is thrown off track when he meets Scarlet.

Scarlet is a mystery to both the Lords and Gideon. Her horrific past has made her the hardened warrior Gideon finds but she wasn't always this way. Cursed with her own demon, Scarlet is bound to Nightmares. Able to transverse the dream world and make fears come to life she is viewed as a threat to the Lords and captured. Imprisoned beneath the fortress she lures Gideon to her but is this the first time they've met?

Seeing her in the dungeon, Gideon knows he has seen her before but from where he knows not, visions of her eyes have haunted his dreams for years for reasons he doesn't know. Her shock declaration that they have in fact been married fills him with guilt. How could he have forgotten this beautiful woman? Determined to find the truth he steals her away from imprisonment intending to seduce her for the information. What ensues neither of them expected.

Filled with twists and surprises this book keeps the reader always guessing right to then end never sure how it'll end between the two. Gideon is an great male lead funny and charming and Scarlet, although almost placed in an anti hero light in the previous book is an great female lead, independent and strong as her own character. Although mainly their story there are chapters dedicated to Strider with a hunter captive and Amun as he struggles with his demon of secrets. Defiantly a must read book absolutely amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising 2 July 2010
Format:Paperback
When I purchased this book, I wasn't holding out much hope for it; I merely bought it because it was in the series and I wanted to keep up to date. The reason I didn't hold much hope for it is that I found Gideon annoying. Not because pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie, but the way the author felt the need to translate nine out of ten times. I admit that sometimes there were sentences so confusing that they needed the translation, but most of the time I think we got the gist by ourselves. I had started to like Gideon as a character after seeing a little more of him in the previous novel but I wasn't looking forward to half of the book being explanation of what had just been said.
As it happens, the storyline more than made up for it. The chemistry between Gideon and Scarlet was one of the best I've ever seen in the series and the big twist was conducted expertly. Some of the smaller twists were easier to see coming but that didn't make them any less enthralling to read. One of the least anticipated books in the series quickly became one of my favourites and made me really eager for the next one to be out so that I can see what happens. I would recommend a hundred percent!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Lords of the Underworld" series book 5 1 May 2010
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
At the beginning of this book Aeron (Wrath) foolishly challenges Cronus to send him a woman who will torment him. What he gets is the angelic Olivia; who has chosen to Fall rather than follow Heavenly orders and kill him. Their relationship is first explored in short story "The Darkest Angel" found in the anthologies "Heart of Darkness" and "Dark Beginnings" but it is in this book that they physically meet for the first time.

Olivia faces competition from Legion; the babyish female demon that Aeron views as a daughter, yet Legion definitely does not consider Aeron a father figure. Olivia is also trying to woo a man who does not want a relationship, yet his demon Wrath is besotted by Olivia; her sinless soul a touch of heaven to him. The backdrop to their budding relationship is littered with face offs with Hunters, tricky deals with the Gods and the introduction of a new Lord; Scarlet the keeper of Nightmares is a gal you definitely want on your side in a fight and her intended match Gideon (Lies) is in for a very interesting courtship ("The Darkest Lie" due for pub. June). There are furious moments of action, sharp verbal sparring and a wonderfully written romance; all expected from this author and delivered in abundance.

Olivia is a likeable mix of contradictions; innocent and temptress, peace lover and fiery warrior, she proves herself an equal partner in a relationship with an immortal warrior. Aeron and his demon Wrath I found slightly off. As Wrath is immediately able to read any of the sins committed by an individual and punish them accordingly, l was left feeling he acted more like vengeance or even justice in some cases.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Lords of the Underworld" series book 6 24 Jun. 2010
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Neither Gideon nor his demon Lies is able to determine if the strange woman who insists she is his wife is telling them the truth. Scarlet is too memorable to ever forget, and how can Gideon explain his tattoos; image's of this woman's eyes and lips etched on his body? Yet Gideon has no memory of this woman, a female Lord who possesses the demon Nightmares.

The immortal Scarlet, if possible, is even more bloodthirsty and prone to acts of violence than Anya from "The Darkest Kiss". Yet Scarlet remains an intensely likeable character; her tendency to skewer people with forks or kill them in their own nightmares perfectly reasonable reactions to the situations she finds herself in. Her demon Nightmares also gives her some unusual abilities which she isn't afraid to use, whilst her family history would have us poor mortals running for refuge in the nearest padded cell. Gideon in turn is a great hero and her perfect match. I enjoyed how he managed to express himself despite his inability to ever tell the truth; especially when he tries to tell Scarlet how he really feels about her. Scarlet provides the humour I expect from this author, as she chooses when to interpret what Gideon means rather than what he actually says, or instead take him at face value when he is clearly lying.

There is action all the way in a twisting story line which includes a nasty family spat between the Titans, the re-appearance of the Unspoken Ones, further battles with the Hunters and perhaps a love interest for Strider; keeper of Defeat. As the relationship deepens between Gideon and Scarlet, the reader is taken on an emotional, drama filled rollercoaster; including one particularly moving scene that had me reaching for the tissues.
