This is the best of the Adrien English series so far I think. The whodoneit story is good, but the real story is the ongoing and stormy relationship between Jake and Adrien. Recovering from the near fatal shooting of the previous story and open heart surgery, Adrien's feelings for Jake are increasingly confused. Pushing him away emotionally and yet hiring him as a PI only increases the strain between them. This is the most satisfying read I've had for ages. Highly recommended.

I've read all five of the Adrien English books in two weeks but this is my favourite. This book made me cry and smile at the same time. The mysteries are good but it is the on-going angsty relationship between Adrien and Jake that make the stories. I love the way the pair are written and desperately kept reading until the end with everything crossed and I came away happy. This is the first review I've ever written. I would high recommend this series.

This is the first Josh Lanyon book I have read and, while it is bizarre to start at the end of the Adrien English series, this one has certainly got me hooked thanks to its mix of a good detective yarn, good writing and the subtle portrayal of the relationship and love between Adrien and Jake. Lanyon builds the tension both in the detective narrative and in the relationship between the two men. You realaly do want these two guys to get it together.
