By Julia Flyte TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is the kind of book you store away in a holiday house for a mindless vacation read. It's a perfectly acceptable thriller which reads like a cross between Harlan Coben and Joseph Finder. Nothing outstanding, one you'll forget shortly after you've finished it, but perfectly readable.

Charles Friedman is a hedge fund manager who is killed in a terrorist attack in New York City. His grieving wife Karen starts receiving threatening messages and realises that Charles had a secret life that she knew nothing about. Meanwhile local cop Ty Hauck is investigating a hit and run accident which happened on the same day as the terrorist attack. It appears that there is a connection between the death of the local youth and Charles Friedman.

Andrew Gross's writing style is very easy to read and skips along at a good pace, although he does tend to over-explain what everyone is thinking and feeling at every opportunity. Some of the writing is cringe-inducing (my favourite being the "throbbing" in Karen's womb which drives her wild during a sex scene). The storyline also unfolds without a great deal of suspense, without any significant twists and with zero plausibility. So why three stars? Because despite all these flaws, I enjoyed it. It held my interest, kept me turning the pages and didn't demand too much thought. A perfectly acceptable, mindless holiday read.

It's an OK plot let down by poor writing, editing and too many coincidences.
Charles Friedman has to take the local commuter train to New York because his car is being serviced, it just so happens that it's the object of a terrorist attack (who? why? we never find out).
Charles usually sits just where the bomb went off, but it just so happens he steps to the other end of the carriage at the right time.
A local man who just so happens to work on Charles's car is the son of another character down in Florida who has seen too much and is making trouble for - you've guessed it, one of Charles's shady deals.
Couple this with bad dialog (as detailed in several other reviews) and a Mills and Boon type love story and it's a mess.
Gross and Patterson writing together usually do a pretty good job, but it looks like they need each other to do so.

Throughly enjoyed Blue zone but like other reviewers i was let down by this novel. The first half was quite slow going and when you put it down it was hard to get back into it. However in the second half, the book picked up pace and it was much more enjoyable, I would definately read this novelist again but just hope he keeps some originality and doesn't get repetetive.

brilliant
Couldn't put this one down. I have read a few of his books that he co-wrote and loved the fast paced style. This was the best so far. On to read the blue line now.

So good it was difficult to put it down. Also easy to read due to short chapters.

Slow, annoying, repetitive and rambling.
As others have said, the addition of the addressee's name to almost every second line of dialogue was incredibly annoying. Read more

More Patterson style rubbish
I have had the misfortune to have been given a James Patterson and now an Andrew Gross paperback to read on my commute. This book reads like it's been written by a schoolboy. Read more

Good start, shame about the rest
Again, my first Andrew Gross novel though I have read some of those he shared with JP. The style is similar with plenty of action to keep the reader interested. Read more

An excellent book, which only came to my attention by the authors association with James Patterson. It kept my attention throughout.
