Sizzling, addictive, and deeply romantic: Miranda Neville's novels are a joy to read.--Eloisa James, New York Times bestselling author

Product Description

She is determined to find a husband. . . now!

Lady Diana Fanshawe’s impeccable bloodline doesn’t stop society from laughing at the antics of her eccentric family. She knows a proper marriage is her one chance to make her way in the world—which is precisely why she will marry Lord Blakeney, though she’s certain she’ll never love him. But then she’s kissed by the brilliant and unconventional Sebastian, Viscount Iverley . . . and her well-laid plans tumble into disarray.

Sebastian wants absolutely nothing to do with love or marriage. But when he arrives at his hated cousin Blakeney’s house party, Sebastian is smitten by the tantalizing Diana. But Diana is “the marrying kind,” and Sebastian has no wish to risk his freedom—though the passion betweenthem is hard to resist. Should the lady follow her heart in an attempt to win Iverley’s, though it seems hardened against her—or should she sacrifice her love for respectability?

Format:Mass Market Paperback
For many years Lady Diana Fanshawe has been infatuated with the Marquis of Blakeney. No one has ever been as handsome as Blake and she fully intends to marry the man. But while Diana is one of the guests at Mandeville, she meets Sebastian Iverley. The bespectacled scarecrow's interests tend toward the intellectual, so it is no wonder they meet in the library. Diana soon finds herself making a wager with Blake that she could get Sebastian to kiss her. As Diana spends more and more time with the awkward Sebastian, she finds herself enchanted. When the kiss occurs, the young widow realizes how much she actually enjoys his presence.

All his life, Sebastian had been told by his uncle that women were poison and that treachery was part of their nature. But Diana turns his head as no other ever has. Shortly after he kisses Diana he learns of the wager. Before he can do anything rash, Sebastian is called away to his uncle's deathbed in Northumberland. He returns as a viscount. His rage toward Diana never dims. With the help of his peer friends, Tarquin and Cain, Sebastian has a complete makeover. He would make Diana care for him and once she wants him as he had once desired her, he would reject her and teach her the meaning of humiliation.

**** FOUR STARS! Though this plot has been done before, I seldom recall reading the lady as the character placing the wager and the gentleman as the innocent. I must say that it gives the story a bit of zest this way. The main characters are well developed with interesting backgrounds. Their friends, as secondary characters, are equally engaging and manage to add their own bit of flavoring to the ongoing plot line. Filled with irony, romance, and humor, readers will find time zip by as they enjoy this gem. Perfect for some cozy reading near the fireplace on a cold evening. ****

This is the second book in the Burgundy Club series.

Lady Diana Fanshawe, a widow, has longed for the handsome, golden haired Lord Blakeney for many years, and hopes he will one day ask her to marry him. But then she meets his cousin, Mr Sebastian Iverley, who is in direct constrast of Blakeney. With ill fitting country style clothes, glasses, a booklover and no interest in women, Diana is puzzled by him. What Diana doesn't know, is Sebastian and Blakeney don't get along, as Blakeney was often cruel to Sebastian as a child for his 'odd' ways. Blakeney makes a bet with Diana to make Sebastian kiss her. She agrees, even though she has no need of the money, so she agrees to give it to charity if she wins. Throughout their interactions, Sebastian finds himself falling in love with Diana, and after sharing a kiss, wants to marry her. But before he asks, he overhears Blakeney discussing his bet with Diana, and immediately feels a fool. He leaves and returns to his own home after hearing of his uncle's ill health. When his uncle dies, he inherits the title and becomes Viscount Iverley. He starts wearing better fitted clothes and vows to return to Diana, make her fall in love with him and cast her aside. In the time he's absent, Diana worries he left because he found out about the bet. She is amazed when she Sebastian returns to find him with title and with a changed appearance. Ladies begin to show an interest, and Diana is upset when Sebastian seems to ignore her. But it is all part of Sebastian's tactics to get her attention. He even stages a robbery, acting the hero when the highwayman threatens to shoot. This makes Diana realise his importance to her and makes herself available to him. But when they sleep together, Diana is shocked at his coldness to her afterwards, and then he informs her he knows of the bet, calling them even. He disappears, leaving Diana both heartbroken and wanting revenge herself. She believes what he did was worse than stealing a kiss. Her sister and Sebastian's relatives (not Blakeney) learn of Sebastian's behaviour and offer their support. She tells her sister she will get back at Sebastian, but deep down, she's already in love with him. After accepting a marriage proposal from Blakeney, she buys an ancient book she knows Sebastian has long wanted. When she meets Sebastian, she flaunts the book in front of him and says she will give it as a gift to her husband. He wonders if she wants him to propose, and is considering it now he regrets his actions. She announces she's marrying Blakeney, and his hatred returns. But she later discovers she's pregnant with Sebastian's baby and knowing she cannot marry Blakeney, finds Sebastian and tells him they must marry unless he wants a bastard child. When they grow closer, Sebastian tells her everything about his past and why he'd initially been against women.

Overall, the book was amazing. I absolutely loved Sebastian Iverley throughout, even with his odd clothes and glasses. I've not read any other books by this author, but I know I will. I hope we find out more about them in the third book in the series, which is due out soon.

Lots of smart characters! 30 Sep 2010
By Sonoma Lass - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Miranda Neville writes fun, sexy historical romance. In her latest book, the heroine is a widow. Diana Fanshawe married for money and position once, and now she has the match of her dreams in sight: Lord Blakeney, whom she has admired and hoped to marry since girlhood. While angling for Blakeney, however, she meets Sebastian Iverley, his bookish, socially awkward cousin. Her attraction to Sebastian doesn't fit with her marriage plans; when she bets Blakeney that she can entrap Sebastian into a kiss, she gets much more than she intended.

Sebastian is a wonderful hero; he is unaware and inexperienced in a number of ways, not just sexually. He had a strange upbringing, without much affection, which means that he isn't well equipped to handle the emotions that he feels because of Diana. Following the story of these two characters as they learn what real love is a wonderful ride -- their relationship IS the story, no spies or plotting villains necessary.

Secondary characters are always treats in Neville's books. She creates really interesting and unique people for her canvas -- Diana's family, in particular is a wonderful collection of lovable eccentrics. And they are smart people, as are Diana and Sebastian. I can never get enough of intelligent characters in my fiction, and this book is full of them. Very highly recommended.

Regency Romance is Sometimes Entertaining but Disappoints 21 Oct 2010

This was my first romance by Miranda Neville and I was disappointed. I could have given her 2 stars for the reasons stated below but I'm giving her 3 stars as I do think she can write. The story should have been interesting enough...it's about a young widow, Lady Diana Fanshawe, from a family of characters who has a lot of money from her first husband and now has the freedom to marry who she wants and she wants the man she wanted as a young girl, Lord Blakeney ("Blake"), a handsome future duke. But then she meets his cousin, Sebastian, Viscount Iverley (sort of a bookish nerd who hates women), and agrees to a wager with Blakeney and his friend that she can get the weird Sebastian to kiss her. She does and Sebastian falls for her. But then he overhears a conversation that tells how she has won such a wager and he decides to seek revenge.

My problems with this romance include the following: (1) the conversations between the characters seemed wordy and went on forever. (2) she inserts trivial facts and scenes (the game in the carriage comes to mind as well as facts about machines and mining) that seem to come out of nowhere and I assume reflect her research into the period (I found those parts quite boring). (3) the "hero" Sebastian is at times mean and cruel (what he did few women would ever forgive), and at times he is passive, more like a victim. I had trouble liking him at all either way. (4) Diana is described by some of the men as not good looking, by Sebastian as beautiful and another as "bonny" which left me confused. Also, she seemed to be plump as she was always on a diet and tended to gain weight--I couldn't decide if she was pretty or not. (5) It never made sense to me that a woman as in control of herself and her life as Diana would sleep with a guy in that time period (1819) believing he was going to propose marriage when he never hinted at it--and when he is not the guy she wants! The justification just didn't fly. (6) The love scenes were disappointing. I couldn't feel the passion; I'm sorry. Just didn't rouse me. Lastly, I found myself skipping paragraphs beginning half way through and that is never a good sign. I am sorry to say I won't be reading more by this author, and despite the 5 and 4 star reviews, I don't recommend this one. See my other reviews for those I give 5 and 4 stars to.

I stayed up until 3am to finish this book after I fell in love with Sebastian. 12 Nov 2010
By Nancy Mirtle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I skittishly started this book. Sebastian had been such a jerk in previous books, I couldn't imagine liking him. But as the truth unfolded and I understood his motivation, I cheered for him. An original story with humor and unique history. The negative reviewers fail to realistically consider social mores and manners of the time, and how sheltered/immature girls would've been in that time period. I found the characters believable.

Delightful author. Read all her books.
