Product Description

Product Description

The Dancing Detective is a traditional detective novel set in contemporary Britain.

When a murder is committed backstage on a popular TV dance competition, no judge or contestant is above suspicion. As events escalate and it seems that the murderer may strike again, the crime-solving efforts of the police are supplemented with those of a mysterious dancing detective in a desperate race to discover whodunit. Moving between past and present and unearthing long held secrets along the way, this is a case teeming with possible motives and in which nothing is as it first seems.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me! 25 Oct 2014

A story written totally in pursuance of a result. " Who dun it ! ". The single minded explanation of the plot, in such detail, became boring.
I had no mental picture of the characters, perhaps an outline of Frobisher and Malloy, but there was not enough personal detail to form an opinion of them. Did they have any interests apart form a television studio, what sort of lives did they lead?
The grammar, vocabulary and phraseology were, as one would expect, excellent, but the overall effect on me was soporific.
I couldn't have cared less about the end result and became quite annoyed when Anton and crew were scrambling up a tor!
So far fetched and unbelievable, I decided to skim the rest and get to the end! Ann's knowledge of Dartmoor, Westminster and her experience on the Strictly front stood her in good stead descriptively but a convoluted plot and a tenacity to share detail was too much for me.
So very disappointing, especially as I had attended a Literary festival and heard Ann Widdecombe speak. She was a great deal more entertaining than her book.

A very good read. Once I got into the book, I couldn't put it down. The detectives came over as real people which made the story more realistic. Loved the twist at the end although I did have an inkling that may be they had got the wrong people. Can't wait for the next novel!.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Widders! 18 July 2014

A brilliant told tale. As in her other novels, Ann Widdecombe really knows how to tell her story and keep the reader gripped.

4.0 out of 5 stars A reasonable introduction to this author 14 Oct 2014

I enjoyed reading this novel. Liked the details of the behind scenes dancing studios. Well written, but felt it was a little far fetched as a plot. The detectives seemed to be a chasing around following fairly insubstantial leads. Not sure I would read any more detective novels written by this author. First book by Ann Widdecombe that I have read. Am now likely to try reading some of her other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, Anton 24 Sep 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What a delight ! Oh Anton, you are just brilliant. I could picture him and I can quite believe he would be just like it !!, I was a great detective story, one which let you have a look behind the scene. And a clever little twist at the end. Just as you thought you had it all worked out . I would definitely recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good first detective book 29 Aug 2014
By Jo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A good first detective book, readable, and easy to pick up to read a few pages, the story was close to Strictly Come Dancing and I wonder how much was fiction and how much happened in real life, not necessarily on Strictly!!! I enjoyed it and would read the next edition if Ann were to write one.

Enjoyed the book bit of an insight to behind the scenes on "Strictly" . The only bit I struggled with was the incredible long car journeys that took place, but it was a good story.
