Product Description

Product Description

Dampness can become an enemy when it invades our interior space, when it persists, when it spreads and damages our domestic fittings, finishes and furnishings, when it encourages the growth of moulds that threaten our health, and when it stimulates the spread of fungus and decay in the structure of our houses. A major industry has developed with specialist contractors but such contractors sometimes concentrate on a single treatment rather than offering a comprehensive diagnosis.

About the Author

Jonathan Hetreed trained as an architect at Cambridge University. He joined a firm of leading environmental architects in Bath. After twelve years as a partner in the firm, he left to establish Hetreed Ross Architects to work on medium and smaller scale projects. Around half of his work involves residential properties and the majority of these are existing and historic buildings. Resident - Bath

First Sentence
The causes of dampness are often difficult to diagnose, sometimes because the problems are hidden, though the symptoms may be all too visible, and sometimes because there are several causes acting simultaneously. Read the first page

Every house I have ever lived in, rented or bought has had damp of some sort. Buyers want reductions from the seller because of it, tradesman can tell you anything- and do anything to 'cure' it. It is a shameful odour and a blight on our paintwork.
This book shows you what kind of damp you have, what causes it and what remedies to take to diminish it. It might stop you purchasing a house that is going to always have problems- or stop you paying a fortune to a trader, when you could take other actions.
It is easy to understand and covers every type of damp, with drawings & photos to help.
There should be a copy in every estate agents office, to help the client. I am no longer afraid of dampness.

This is a great book about the causes and solutions of house damp , form condensation to raising damp.

It can rather expensive and annoying to deal with it ,but the book explains to tell apart the different types and how to deal with it.

I feel it should be read by anyone with damp in their property before they call an engeener to sort it out.

It ues plain language and is easy to understand.

Well done

This is a straight forward and well written text that will particularly appeal to the lay-man. If you have suspected damp in your property, it would be well worth reading this book before you go diving in and spending money on damp treatments that you may regret. This book will give you the basic information to be able to make informed decisions as to which course of action to take. One particular strength of this book is the way in which the author has supplemented the theory with drawings that enhance the explanations in a simple logical manner. Recommended reading.
