The gardening classic beautifully repackaged in a new edition.

Product Description

THE DAMP GARDEN presents a vivid picture of a garden in the making, yet it remains first and foremost a practical guide for all gardeners, whether they have a pond or stream, or just a small area of damp ground.

In revealing what has worked in her own garden, Beth Chatto passes on wealth of advice gleaned from her personal experience. She provides detailed - and accessible - ideas on garden management, plans for every type of soil and situation, nearly twenty specially tailored lists to help with planting in various conditions, and descriptions of over 1,000 suitable plants for making the most of damp ground.

With a garden of heavy wet clay in Scotland, this is the only book I've found that focuses on our specific needs. Part biography of her own damp garden, part invaluable plant list, this book is full of ideas and inspiration. I love it. A classic. If you want ideas of what to do in your own patch of wet ground, buy this book.

The full experience 5 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Almost two decades in print, the follow up to the dry garden, amazingly, goes even further to provide the full experience...

Chatto shares all generously: planting plans, combinations, intimate insights... She is at ease when it rains as much as when it doesn't, or perhaps this is just wishful thinking...

Chatto's gardens have been providing the testing ground for her planting ideas for many years. Locally, she fought damp with gravel successfully. This is pure ornament - not a scientific ecological experiment! However, her methods serve us all well - regardless of our geographical identities....
