From Amazon.co.uk

The Damned continued to fuel the ardent fires of old fans and new long after the flames of The Sex Pistols and The Clash had been extinguished. Final Damnation is a testament to their longevity and popularity, reeking as it does of fannish glee. It's essentially a document about the legendary reunion concert at London's Town and Country Club in June, 1988, a 17-song set of "chaos music". Captain Sensible walks on in shorts and a veil to wind up the audience ("We're not doing it for the money"). Rat's already spraying water on the drumskins and Dave Vanien (nee Letts) is ready to "woah" his way into "See Her Tonight". They were the first UK punk band; they had the UK's first punk single ("New Rose", which is also played here); somehow they ended up being a look/sound blend of punk, Goth and rockabilly. And that has to be at the heart of what makes the world's fastest cover of The Beatles' "Help" so amazing. Other song highlights include "Fish", the audience singalong to "Wait for the Blackout" and the finale of "The Last Time".

On the DVD: there's a downside to this disc, sadly, in the form of an annoying Video Jockey who has plenty of interesting things to say, but says it over the songs! Rubbing it in even more is a duplication of his commentary in what's labelled as a Biography. For the juicy info the disc's real gems are the 16-minute "Damned Story", crammed with chat from the concert event, and the 18-minute 2001 interview with Brian James. This is the sort of condensed candid critique by which all bands ought to be measured. A photo gallery slideshow rounds out the package. --Paul Tonks --This text refers to the DVD edition.

The Damned are still going strong , maybe even stronger these days . This dvd show's a reunion concert in 1988.It's a great idea to have the first half of the gig with Brian James on guitar and Captain Sensible on bass.Playing the songs the way they were meant to be played. All the classics are here Neat Neat Neat , New Rose . Brian James has a style far removed from Captain Sensible and splitting the gig into old and new makes you realise how different the Damned became with Captain on guitar . Damned mk1 were true rock and roll , while mk2 became classic eccentric punk.
The only thing that will soon get on your nerves is the video DJ who talks over the start of each song so you miss the classic bass line to Love Song , by the time he stops nattering the Damned are just about into the first chorus. Dave Vanian show's that not only does he swagger like a front man , I would go as far to say he is the best front man of all time .His singing has imroved and this dvd shows his true vocal ability.
Final Damnation is a must for any guitar bassed music fan.
The extras are not bad either , with a great 2001 interview with Brian James .

This could have been so great, but someone got the idea that if some guy read comments from time to time, sometimes over the music, it would be even better.. Its not..
But, the show is very good, as always when its The Damned.

Bought it for my daughter, who is a massive Damned fan. She has no complains, which speaks volumes. A very underrated band, who always bring a smile to one's face! Happily, they are still going strong.

Excellent gig but why is the bloke doing commentary before the songs, and over the music? Who is he? Does he matter?Ruined it for me I'm afraid.
