Product Description

Product Description

An essential guidebook for anyone planning to walk the Dales Way. This picturesque 78-mile walk goes through the Yorkshire Dales and the eastern fringe of the Lake District between Ilkley and Bowness on Windermere - the only guide available which describes the route in both directions. The Dales Way is one of the gentlest multi-day walks in Britain, suitable for all ages and an excellent introduction to long-distance walking. The route makes the most of delectable Wharfedale, travelling virtually to the source of the great river before crossing into the equally delightful Dentdale. This too is followed as it fashions a lovely course through the village of Dent and on to Sedbergh, where it joins the Rawthey. From here, the Way strikes westward into the fringe of Lakeland. The great attraction of the Dales Way is that it is rarely far from features of architectural, social, ecological or historic interest, with churches, ancient bridges, manor houses, shooting lodges, Roman roads, stone circles, packhorse routes, viaducts and nature trails - the Dales Way has them all.

Dales Way Guide Book 14 Sep 2009
By DC
Format:Paperback
I have found Cicerone Guide Books to be accurate, detailed and informative. After buying The Hadrian's Wall Guide last year and finding it very useful I decided to buy this one covering The Dales Way. Although the publication date is a few years previous the information is still timely and covers all aspects of the walk. I followed the walk from Ilkley to Bowness as per the main part of the book but information is also offered for the reverse direction. Amazon offered the best available price at time of purchase. Unlike my previous Cicerone book, this one did not have a plasticised cover to offer best protection from the elements but only a minor point. Interesting to note that other walkers I met on the route also had the same book. A good companion for my walks.

Having just completed the Dales way this was a good guide with Ordinance Survey Maps included in sections. The main route is usefully broken down into smaller routes from town to town, however my main criticism would be that at times the instructions are a bit ambiguous and you can often find yourself losing track of where you are up to in the book in relation to the walk.

All in all though a good book to complete the 82 mile walk if your mad enough!

I needed a detailed view of the Dales Way, and as usual Amazon had the best deals on this book, it was cost friendly, and delivered within 7 days, spot on.
