By J. Sane
Format:Audio CD
I bought this album first on vinyl in about 1983; two LPs have now been combined for the CD & most Zounds songs are contained here. I've just bought this on CD again, as I cannot grow old(er) without it, just as I could not have grown up the same without it. It changed the way I saw and see the world.
The band was popular in anarcho-punk circles in the UK scene in the early 80's, although the music is too melodic to be considered punk. The drummer, Josef Porter, later became the drummer for the mythical anarcho (Crass) band, The Mob, and even later, formed Blythe Power, as drummer / singer.
The lyrics and songs are rhythmical and very thought provoking. I want my kids to listen to this. I cannot recommend it too highly. If you are anti-globalisation, you'll love it. If you ever feel alienated by the modern world, have a listen.

This album is a classic but it was never mastered properly. In 2007 Steve Lake of Zounds mastered all the tracks and added another one which were then released in the UK by Active Distribution. It sells for a mere £5 inc p&p if you can be bothered to get off this corporate capitalist website and check out the DIY punk scene!

The Legend of Zounds 10 Dec 2002
Format:Audio CD
OK, I'll try and keep this short! If youre an 18 year old punk that would sell their granny to have seen the clash or youre an old punk like me that can remember the days when you could go and see the clash and it would cost you about £3.50 youre gonna love this. In fact if youre the latter you probably made the same mistake as me and sold your vinyl copy for less than the price of a pint and if so you know you don't get over the regret of parting with this gem. Well, nows your chance to heal that wound and it's a chance you must not miss. I replaced my vinyl copy with a CD I ordered from a highstreet megastore, that was before I knew about amazon and it took 8 months to arrive but was worth every minute of the wait.

The Sex Pistols told us that we had no future, they said they where the poison in the human machine and then zounds came along and explained exactly why we had no future and told us all about the poison in the machine. The album starts with the cry of WAR! Drums explode like grenades and we face an all-out attack with machine gun guitars. The next bit tells us we don't have to do it, we can refuse, sub-vert, sub-ver-ert and when mum goes out I'm gonna turn that up to number 10 and scream along to it in front of the mirror, but wait! My mommys gone, to a place where I can't go, a place thats clothed in the mystery of corperate identity, supermarkets and 3 piece suits, My mommys gone!

This album is the happy anarchists classic and ownership af it earns you the right to be called a hardcore punk. It's fast, it's slow, it's deep, it's the poison in the machine and it's boppy pop in places too. This album is to punk what the moon landing was to mankind. As for the lyric, it doesn't get anymore unique than this, "One - Two - Three - Go, I've got an ego, It won't let me go, What am I gonna do?". All this and extra tracks too, what more could you ask for?

I did say I would keep this short but my enthusiasm wants to take over and write a few more thousand words so I will leave you with some advice, buy it! Don't just buy one copy, buy copies for you friends because they will all want to borrow it. Buy an addittional copy and ask your bank to keep it safely in their vault because if anything happens to your copy and you can't buy it again for some reason, don't expect your friends to lend you their precious copy. :)
