Book Description

1 Sep 2011

Next-door neighbours Ruby and Jackson get the surprise of their lives when they discover a Thing living at the bottom of their gardens. And when Thing places a curse on the inhabitants of the new house that's been built over his old home, Ruby and Jackson find themselves up to their eyeballs in jellybabies, magic and BIG trouble.

I never expected to be friends with a Thing. Well, you don't, do you? You usually think of friends being either boys or girls, or maybe even cute yappy dogs. Well, Thing certainly doesn't fit into any of those categories. Thing is just a... a... Actually, I'm not sure quite how to describe it.

"A sort of troll crossed with a fairy crossed with a squirrel?" Jackson suggested, after we first discovered Thing.

"I is not a squirrel," Thing purred grumpily, twitching its squirrelly ears. "And not a fairy or a trolly. Whatever they is."

By the way, I never expected to be friends with Jackson Miller either. I guess I've got a bit of explaining to do, about Jackson and about Thing. (Oh, and about curses and jellybabies too, And the magic. I mustn't forget the magic!)

Contains charming black and white line illustrations by Alex T. Smith

Format:Paperback
I am 7 year old girl. I really like this book; it is about this really annoying boy called Jackson and a girl called Rubby (well Thing calls her Rubby, she is actually called Ruby)and of course, Thing who is the main charcter. The reason it is called Curse of the Jelly Babies is because Thing puts a curse on the house(the house becomes full of jelly babies whilst people are out. He meant to put a curse on Jackson and turn him into a jelly baby. They then had to try and eat all the jelly babies before the owners came home, but it didn't work....The actual author came to my school and put her signature in my book! I recomend this book to all children of any age who like exciting cliff hanger stories.

I have now bought all three of the books in this series and my 8 year old son loves them all and has persuaded his granny to read them too. He will choose to read these books over watching tv or playing computer ganes.

i bought this book in the airport for my daughter who is 8 years old...we were heading to the canaries
for 10 days, i was hoping she would at least start it on holidays, and she could finish it when we
returned...to may amazement once she started it she did not put it down.. she finished it in 5 days,
and she never once had to get help with any words..so i would highly recommend it for an 8 year old... i am
going to reserve a copy of the next one which is due out in jan...

5.0 out of 5 stars Giggle fest 7 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
Have just come down stairs after reading another chapter of this wonderful book with my eight year old daughter. She's been giggling and chuckling like some sort of demented hyiena (lovely image). Came onto Amazon immediately to see if there were any other books in the series and found there are two more coming out next Jan (2012) and July (12). Will just have to wait I suppose !
The book is beautifully written and appeals to my daughter's (and mine) sense of humour. Can't wait for the next installments !
