Our 7 and 4 year olds say they find this book funny and like the pictures but they don't ask for the book to be read that often - but, as I said on a review of Princess Sylvie, they vastly prefer the smaller sized Floris editions of Beskow's books. I found the story peculiar and the pictures of fish walking about on two legs were ugly in my opinion. I didn't feel Beskow did as much with the story as she could have done - and it just feels a bit flat.

Another beautiful story from Elsa Beskow

My 3.5 year old son received this book for Christmas this year. The story is about a curious fish that is caught by a boy named Tom. Tom wishes to keep the fish for a pet and so he brings it home and places it in a glass jar full of water. A newt who saw Tom capture the small fish tells the fish's family and the family then plans to retreive the fish from the boy. A frog places a spell on the fish and they are able to sprout legs and go to Tom's house. There are parts to the book that are mildly humorous. The only thing I really didn't like about this story is that the word "stupid" is used once. This story is a big long for younger crowds, my 3.5 y.o. sat through it without a problem, but my 22 mos old would not listen at all.

We own almost all of Elsa Beskows books. The Curious Fish is one of my 4 year old sons favorites. An enchanting tale of a curious little fish and a sweet little boy. The pictures are beautiful. It will keep your childs attention and have their imagination soar.

My 3.5 yr old daughter loves this book! It is somewhat long so we usually read a few pages at a time and she always gets excited to see what is coming up in the book. Not only is the story entertaining but the pictures are great also. Highly recommend!
