5.0 out of 5 stars Good one. 24 Aug 2007
Apart from the poetry (as the previous review point out), which is one of the key reasons to get the book, If you're not English (like me), it's a good way to: learn the lyrics (of course), to improve your English level and above all, to complement your music library.

Great for spending an evening revisiting Cure's records and getting familiar with Robert Smith's world...

Highly recommended.

You will totally have a whole new respect for Robert Smith and The Cure. Even a non "cure" fan will appreciate the poetry contained in this decade of Robert's mind. It is a phenomenal experience. You will want to place the words with unheard music, and unlock the mystery behind The Cure. Must have for any poetry collector.

Do you sing along with Robert? If you've never seen them printed before you'll be surprised to find out how many words you had wrong!! His are better - a wonderful wordsmith. I bought second hand but the book looks hardly used - obviously not owned by a singer!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Songwords" is pure poetry. 29 Dec 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Robert Smith is undoubtably one of the most gifted songwriters of our time. His lyrics are full of unique imagery, with emotions that range from the highs of elation to the depths of dispair... The words are sometimes soothing-- other times bordering on disturbing and bizarre-- but always honest and thought-provoking. His lyrics stand alone beautifully as modern poetry.

This is the collection of emotions, more than words... a collection of thoughts an history of the Cure. Lyrics to everything up through Disentigration, it is a must for any die hard Cure collector. Ever wonder what the lyrics to some of those b-sides on the Kiss Me album, they're in here!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars an ESSENTIAL for Cure fans everywhere 6 Aug 1998
By vnothing@yahoo.com - Published on Amazon.com
Songwords from 1979-1989. An excellent book. Especially for those early lyrics that aren't in the CD inserts. It's even good as just a book of poetry to read sometimes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful poetry of our time. 4 Sep 1999
By Daniel J. DeMarco (OWC33@webtv.net) - Published on Amazon.com
Robert Smith's lyrics are of another world. He is the only true poet of our generation. His words can create emotions that Dickinson would be jealous of. The Cure Songwords is an incredible book every Cure fan must own. As for those who do not know of the Cure. Just read the book and you'll know the beauty of Robert Smith.
