5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping adventure thriller! 23 May 2012

Boss manages to realistically voice the thoughts and motivations of a variety of characters in this exciting novel. He does an excellent job of bringing the reader along into a fantasy computer world, explaining things along the way with very smooth exposition. All of the intersecting story lines come together to a heart-pounding crescendo of an ending. This story has something for everyone, regardless of what type of fiction you enjoy. It is a great read and I would highly recommend it. I look forward to reading more from this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars A tension-filled page turner! 16 May 2012

When Tyler escapes the murderous clutches of Silas, a cult fanatic and serial killer, he finds himself in a desperate attempt at survival. Through an online virtual world, reminiscent of Everquest or World of Warcraft, he meets an unlikely ally - Takara, a Japanese woman halfway across the world. Not wanting to relive her own tragic past, she is determined to save him. But when the fast-paced pursuit to find the boy leads to a vast national park, where does she begin? And who will get to Tyler first? Mark Boss' The Cultist is a tension-filled pager turner!

Boss has done an excellent job creating a character driven story. His writing style is solid. The plot keeps you guessing. But most impressive is his ability to describe how Tyler is able to survive in the wilderness. Similar to The Hunger Games - a survival adventure in which a young heroine must survive in the wilderness while being hunted by her peers - The Cultist amplifies the drama by including Silas; a vicious killer with no other goal but to hunt Tyler down.

Add this novel to your Kindle library. The Cultist will not disappoint!
5.0 out of 5 stars A fresh new voice 15 Nov 2011

It is refreshing to find a young protagonist honestly portrayed. In this story, you will find yourself transported from young Tyler's real life nightmare (running from a man who just committed mass murder), to a virtual world that is on the brink of destruction. Through a virtual role-playing game, Tyler meets the young Japanese woman Takara, who believes that Tyler is in danger and is willing to travel half way around the world to help him. Boss captures the innocence of youth, as well as the paradigm shift that young people may actually learn more survival skills from television than cub scouts and know more about technology than their parents. Although Tyler's situation is grim, you will not be able to resist taking on the survival adventure with him.
