Product Description

Brett and Karen come from two separate worlds with one common interest that brought them together - wrestling.

Brett Kerrigan is a smaller than average cruiserweight wrestler who loves to entertain the crowds, giving it all for his fans throughout the world. In spite of his size, Brett proves he can be as strong, quick and fierce as his larger competitors. Away from the spotlight, he struggles with being taken seriously as a wrestler, backstabbing co-workers, and power hungry management.

Pittsburgh-based sports journalist Karen Montgomery has followed wrestling since her teens. An acclaimed article printed one year earlier won a prestigious sports press award, and, when several attempts to arrange a personal interview with Brett are thwarted, she almost gives up attempting to meet her idol without the help of her editor, Greg Sullivan. One fateful night after a wrestling event, Karen has an unexpected encounter with Brett in a hotel lounge - ending in getting her sought-after interview with him.

Throughout the following year, a special friendship - and then romance - blossoms between the unlikely pair, despite the loss of Brett’s lucrative contract, long distance living between him and Karen, the differences in their ages, and an unexpected personal event Karen never considered in the present stage of her life.

'The Cruiserweight's' story is fun, fast-paced, and delightfully told. A pure mix of sporting scenes, humor, raunchy sex, true love, and friendships combined with behind the scenes glimpses of wrestling, I had a great time reading this story.

Brett and Karen aren't your usual characters. Each comes with their own set of flaws-Brett being short and not what most women consider 'hot', though they do chase him for his fame. Karen isn't a 'cookie cutter Barbie type' woman, and that's what makes her stand out. She understands Brett's schedule, supports his career, and loves him unconditionally. Most men would probably dream of having such a woman in their lives, and Ms. Carrington painted Karen perfectly.

The camaraderie between Brett and his best friend Patrick also has its laugh out loud moments in addition to both men having each other's backs in precarious situations.

Sex a plenty, love and so much more is to be found in this book. This story is set in a background most will be unfamiliar with. It is the world of wrestling and yet it is one we can all still read and relate to thanks to the romance between Brett and Karen and the slices of humour that are also thrown in. I will not spoil your read as so many reviews give away too much of the story and I won't. What I will say is, this is cleverly written by someone with a very obvious understanding of the wrestling world. It draws you in and makes you want to get to know more about the main characters and the worlds they inhabit - it doesn't disappoint. It caters for all as sex, love and friendship is set in a world of wrestling which many of us know little about, yet this is a book that will be enjoyed by all. Don't be put off by the wrestling background as this makes for a story you'll be so glad you have read. You wait - I can guarantee you'll be recommending this to your friends too.

A wresling delight 22 May 2011

This novel was an entirely new experience for me. Mixing romance and wrestling is definitely unique. I, however, know absolutely nothing about wrestling. I don't watch it, I don't know the terminology, and the only wrestlers I've known are has-beens.

With this in mind, I didn't know what to expect from The Cruiserweight. The book is a gentle read, the pace is sedate, which is a good thing because it gives you plenty of time to get into the world of wrestling. Basically the novel follows Karen, a journalist covering wrestling events, her meeting a wrestler 18 years her junior, and their subsequent romance.

I think a number of women will identify with this book. I'm built like Heather Locklear, which puts me into a minority group. And it's a default setting I have no control over. Most women however are not *as this book says* 'poles', but are instead rounder, curvier and decidedly voluptuously feminine. For them, the main character Karen will represent them, finally a main character who is an every-woman lady. It's heartwarming to read about a romance where the man isn't pining after a swimsuit model, but truly loves the curves on his lady.

When the content heats up, it heats up a lot. Carrington doesn't skimp on details (at all) - and at some points it definitely felt like a relationship built on sexual encounters. But then aren't they all? That's the glue that binds a couple together at the beginning, the whole attraction factor *thing*, so again I think Carrington kept it real. However much to my shock and horror, I realised I'm a prude. Reading this, there were some sexual shenanigans that made me uncomfortable to read, however I know enough people who do this sort of thing, and I've never given it much thought, until I had to read it in here. So be warned, this book is liberal.

The book has a nice happy ending, and overall is a sedate love story with a lot of wrestling thrown in as that is the central theme. It's not my usual cup of tea, it's the first time I've ever read anything like this, but it's a great beach read, just don't read it if you've just broken up with your boyfriend. But if you like wrestling, you will love this book.

Loved it! 3 Mar 2011

Slick, smooth, easy read set in the world of wrestling. An unlikely romance between sport journalist Karen and her idol wrester Brett. Gritty, yet traditional romantics need not be put off by the "wrestling" theme, the romance it there ten-fold. Sexy, sassy and fast-paced.
Enjoy.

A Must-Read book 5 April 2011

I won't be long, but I will say that I purchased this book a few weeks ago and since then I can not put the book down.

It is just a very good blend of romance, wrestling, and Ms. Carrington tells a good story about the two main characters of the book. That is really all I can say without spoiling it for those that will purchase the book. It is worth every penny and from start to finish I don't think any reader would be disappointed with this purchase.
