I bought this book, years ago because i had enjoyed sharing all Dick's books with my children and felt confident that this would please us. It did more than that! We learned that Spider needed our respect and our tolerance, as did his adoptive parents. The compassion that they showed can sometimes be forgotten in our modern world. I work as a TA and have often had to search my soul for patience and dig deep for the energy required to assist the learning of children in schools today. If only we could let our children experience a country childhood and become closely acquainted with the flora and fauna as described by this masterful storyteller all our souls would be the richer. When acceptance of our differences and inclusion is encouraged in society The Crowstarver should be on the curriculum, at home if not in school. Buy this book its a classic and its a beautiful poignant lesson in human nature.
