This is a fast-paced action fantasy about two thieves, Royce and Hadrian, who get caught up in a conspiracy to supplant the king, and end up trying to save the prince.
This is a book were the complete package outshines all the individual elements. The plot is decent, but pretty straightforward. The characters are nice, but are not incredibly deep. Some of them go through sufficient development, others don't. The worldbuilding is adequate, but not very inventive or exotic. The magic plays a small, supporting role without being spectacular. The pace is not fast, not slow. The language is pretty good and clear, but not evocative nor flowing.
But like a hearty stew from solid, though unspectacular ingredients, the final result is satisfying, filling and makes you yearn for a second serving.
The concept of an uncomplicated, action-filled tale that is not heavy on the standard epic fantasy ingredients and which offers a beginning, middle and ending in one book is something that can satisfy a lot of fantasy readers. For those readers, The Crown Conspiracy at its current price ($ 4.99) is a good buy
