Biography

Enigma are an electronic band who incorporate ambient, house and new age themes into their music. The driving force behind Enigma is Michael Cretu who, along with Sandra Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson, set up the project in 1990. Due to the way that Enigma build their tracks, they found themselves in court on more than one occasion in disputes over sampled sounds and music. This… Read more in Amazon's Enigma Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Haunting, evocative, mysterious, and magnificent, Enigma's Cross of Changes offers nine musical explorations of sound and sensation that dazzle and amaze. The songs unfold in rolling waves, each more complex and richly layered than the last, yet each fully capable of standing alone as a musically satisfying experience. The standout track on this disc is "Return to Innocence", which combines Native American chanting, Celtic harmonies, and a deceptively simple lyric to devastating effect. At once esoteric and elemental, Cross of Changes is a fine example of the best the genre has to offer. --L.A. Smith

I originally bought this album when I was a first year university student. I remember playing it over and over with my new found friends thinking I was soooo cool! Well, it's some 10 years later now, and I no longer worry about looking cool, however, I do worry about ever losing my copy of this CD, because even 10 years later it sounds as fresh and inventive as it did all that time ago. Whenever I feel down in the dumps this is the best CD in the world to put on and just forget about everything else! truly a masterpiece that will be around for many more years to come I hope.

This is an album that, from the sample clips, you may not think is for you. However if you listen to the album proper, you realise that this is quite wrong. Cross of changes is an outstanding, brilliant piece of work that encompases a style of music rarely heared and thus warmly welcome. It is a change from anything really, although individual songs borrow styles from others, especially Return to innocence, which borrows from the Sacred Spirit style of Native American chants with relaxed, spiritual music and lyrics. This album is a must for anyone, it is perfect for any mood, it will uplift you, relax, calm you whatever. The highlights are 'i love you, i'll kill you' and the outstanding and beautiful 'return to innocence', which featured in an advert for peugeot and will stay with you forever; you'll never forget or tire of that song. This is a perfect album and should feature in anyones album collection

I personally am sick of the trashy, contrived formulaeic music in today's charts. That's why I love this CD, it's SO different. This I think will still be my favourite of the lot, even if/when I complete the set.

The intro (Second Chapter), which is nothing short of absolutely mind-blowing, will take your breath away, leading you into a sublime, continuous journey through your very soul, with musical style you quite simply have not heard ANYWHERE before. It aint just a relaxation CD (an insult, in my view) - it's MUCH more than that, and at the same time indescribable. It's truly awesome and will make the hairs stand on end, trust me. Just put the volume up full, and let your spirit rise. Simply breath-taking. Michael Cretu and gang don't get nearly as much credit or publicity as they deserve.

Buy it, especially if you want to defy convention.

Timeless, Brilliant, Enchanting.
I can't say much about this album that hasn't already been said to be honest. This is music for the musically mature minded, don't expect 'pop' when you put this album on. Read more

Prepare to unwind
This is the only CD which I have ever heard which combines relaxation and also borders on the verge of erotic.
