Product Description

Product Description

This charming little magic book holds the carefully guarded secrets that a wise woman of bygone days could have penned in her grimoire by candlelight. Herbal elixirs, powerful charms, amulets, balms for all folk who come to her seeking their heart's desire: enhanced health and healing, protection, love, marriage, fertility, wealth, youthfulness, beauty.

Quaint and mystic, this treasury of lore also describes twelve rituals to guide you through the mysteries of a full year of seasons. Begin with an ice-sparkling ceremony for the first day of the year and celebrate the winter solstice in a glorious burst of red and gold fire. Each ceremony grows out of the unchanging truths of the cycle of seasons and of the universe itself.

I think the reason a lot of people have given this book a low rating is because they expected Wicca and got old-fashioned craft instead.

Nowhere does this book claim to be Wiccan. It is old-fashioned folk magic, not bound by the rede so yes, it does contain hexes and curses.

Someone pointed out that some of the herbal ingredients for the spells are difficult to obtain. Have a look for a mail order herb company and you shouldn't have to worry. Perhaps by putting a bit more effort into things, better results may be achieved. Sometimes, things are not better by virtue of being easier.

The book contains a lot of great little spells- if you don't want to curse or hex, don't but don't condemn the book because it isn't Wicca - most of the really useful information isn't.

The Crone's Book of Charms and Spells, along with it's sister title, The Crone's Book of Magical Words, are, in my opinion, two of the most beautiful and inspiring works of traditional folk magic and operative witchcraft currently available, and to the more serious student of the Craft I thoroughly recommend them. You will not find in their pages any reference to Wicca or the 'Old Religion', or any gods and goddesses, but you will discover a soul-enriching connection to a magical Universe whose expression is to be found in these beautiful charms and spells.

The book is a romantic and lyrical journey through magickal herbs and charms, however in the spirit of the true craft, the author does not omit the darker side of magic. There are harmful and terrible spells in this book, and as such the book should be treated with some respect, and caution. Worth has also created a very useful and instructive guide to talismans and charms. If you buy the book I hope you enjoy it (and take care)!
