Product Description

The Crochet Book is an irresistible gift set that is the perfect introduction to this traditional craft. Bringing her modern take to crochet, Cath Kidston has designed a colourful patch cushion that will cheer any room. Using double-knitting weight yarn in six upbeat, bright Cath Kidston colours, you can now make your very own Cath Kidston cushion. Packaged in a bright floral design, re-useable tin, this gift set includes everything you need to make the cushion including six balls of yarn, one red metal 4mm crochet hook plus a double-sided pattern sheet that gives all the instructions for making up the cushion. In addition, the gift set includes a 48 page paperback booklet containing all the essential information on the basic crochet techniques, including foundation chains, single crochet, double crochet, changing colours and finishing off. There are even some alternative ideas for what else you can make with your crochet patches in case a cushion isn't for you. With clearly written instructions accompanied by explanatory diagrams, The Crochet Book will tempt everyone to pick up a hook and start crocheting.

An unusual present and bound to be a best-seller with Christmas coming up soon! I know my friend Lesley will love it (I hope she won't mind me describing her as a lady of "mature" years) however many of my younger friends are fans of Cath Kidston too. I like the fact that it includes instructions for those of us who are new to crochet, plus alternative ideas if you don't want to create a cushion. If you don't know what to buy younger friends and relatives for Christmas, then why not buy them this?

I have never crocheted before and when I saw this I got it as soon as it was released. I love cath kidston craft books (and just about everything else she makes!) and this book is great because it has everything you need to try out the craft without having to invest in a lot of equipment first off. The instructions are very clear and there's a how to crochet booklet which shows all the stiches. I have now got so into crocheting that I've made some little shoes for my daughter and have a million other ideas for projects.

For a first timer like me this 'book' is perfect and I'm thrilled I've learnt something new!

When you buy Cath Kidston you expect quality, because that is what you normally get. I am really disappointed to say that although the tin, crochet guide and pattern are lovely, the quality of wool is disgraceful. You would expect for a price point of £20 in store that it would be at least a simple cotton yarn. It is not. It is an awful, scratchy acrylic. The sort which you would get in a huge bag in a pound shop.

Too add insult to injury, my wool had clearly fallen apart and been re-knotted several times on each ball. If you were to buy this for a beginner I could imagine this being the most discouraging project to start with as the wool literally breaks up in your hands as you work with it.

Instead, I would recommend getting a free pattern off Ravelry and treating yourself to a good quality wool. It will definitely be a more pleasurable experience, and will probably be cheaper too.
