Product Description

Product Description

Caring and cold, funny and deadly serious, hellishly gruesome and wildly fantastic, heart-warming and darkly humorous, the fifteen tales of Part One represent a mix of genres, reveal a different world, dark and bizarre, yet in a way that blurs the borders between mysticism and reality. Some gruesome parallels could be real, but in every story there is an implication, a chance of a magic, supernatural motive. Other episodes may look like sheer fantasy, but each ending offers a possible real explanation.

Part Two: Robert Noirson will be a treat for the author's Lost on Earth fans and a good introduction for those new to her work. In this section the stories follow a diverse group of humans as they fight the supernatural forces of the devilish protagonist. Retribution is the deciding factor here, and all comes to a delightfully sinister reptilian end.

From the Author

The "creatures" and "Noirson" themes, bound with retribution, fatalism, and powerful supernaturalism, come delightfully and succinctly together in the book's final paragraph.

Enjoy that ride to the end

Creatures takes us to a different world, dark and fantastic, but not so very different from our own. An elk, hellish fires reflected in its lovely brown eyes, sends motorists to their deaths. The action of instinctively shaking off a spider causes decapitation. A careless camper/photographer who "feeds the bear" pays an ultimate price for her stupidity.

These gruesome parallels "could be" real. The book moves further, however, into fantasy: the spectre of a camel called by magic words and an amulet, the changeability of a witch who beckons deep in mountain passages, and the appearance of the winged horse of legend, granter of a poet's most heartfelt wish.

I like the book very much. It's hard to put down.
