Book Description

13 April 2012
Randi and her twin brother, Tyler, didn’t think it was such a great idea for their family to spend the summer in a vacant house in a small town called Blairingville. Boringville seemed more like it. But as it turns out, the vacation was anything but boring!

There’s a surprise in every closet here—and not the good kind. Alien creatures are lurking, mysterious dolls are growing, and there’s a sinister twelve-year-old boy with a powerful hypnotic pendant who may hold the key to the entire mystery. Now if Randi can just escape a monster’s clutches, send some space visitors back to who knows where, and regain control of her free will, she might just get her family back home in one piece. It’s another scary good read from the master of shriek-out-loud horror, R.L. Stine.

About the Author

R.L. (Robert Lawrence) Stine is one of the best-selling children's authors in history. His Goosebumps series, along with such series as Fear Street, The Nightmare Room, Rotten School, and Mostly Ghostly have sold nearly 400 million books in this country alone. And they are translated into 32 languages.

The Goosebumps TV series was the top-rated kids’ series for three years in a row. R.L.’s TV movies, including The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It and Mostly Ghostly, are perennial Halloween favorites. And his scary TV series, R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, is in its second season on The Hub network.

R.L. continues to turn out Goosebumps books, published by Scholastic. In addition, his first horror novel for adults in many years, titled Red Rain, will be published by Touchstone books in October, 2012.

R.L. says that he enjoys his job of “scaring kids.” But the biggest thrill for him is turning kids on to reading.

R.L. lives in New York City with his wife, Jane, an editor and publisher, and King Charles Spaniel, Minnie. His son, Matthew, is a sound designer and music producer. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goosebumps rocks! 14 Jun 2012

As a former elementary school librarian, I highly recommend all of the books in the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine. The reading level and exciting content of these books is perfect for third and fourth graders, and advanced second-grade readers also love these books. The Goosebumps series is a wonderful gateway into chapter books. The author has created one of the most popular book series for elementary-aged children, enhancing reading skills and vocabulary while instilling a true love for reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diabolical 28 Aug 2013

Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Put twin disenfranchised almost teenagers in a summer house in a strange neighborhood next to an abandoned house and you pretty much know what you are going to get. Then add the room of dolls. That would have been fine all by itself, even before the 4 year old brother and the aliens.

It's a diabolical story with lots of turns and twists. As with all R.L. Stine, a little predictable, but good for the 2nd to 3rd grade group. There were also a few mistakes that children love finding --like the 4 year old who won't sleep easily in one chapter in a champ at it the next. There is actually another problem that is a spoiler. (In comments.)

Still a good over all story.

This, as like most R.L. Stine books, is quite short and can be read in an afternoon.
Still, my nephew, being a R.L. Stine fan enjoyed it a lot.
Recommended for fans of the author.

The Creatures from Beyond Beyond is a great creepy book that kids who want a little scare in an easy to read chapter book will love. I recommend this book to kids who read at a third grade level (great for older but struggling readers).

5.0 out of 5 stars Scary! Disturbing! And Completely Riveting... 1 Aug 2013
By K. Groh - Published on
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I have two kids. One is very sensitive to fears. One is not. My sensitive child had nightmares for years after just seeing the cover of an R.L. Stine book. The other never seems phased.

This is not a book for a child who is sensitive to fears. It plays on the very things that kids think about in the dark of the night.

A creepy doll expands when touched! Aliens are trying to take children away to eat them in restaurants! What will happen to the twins on their summer vacation?

This is a spooky book that builds and builds until... I'll never tell. You have to read it for yourself!

Good writing, just enough suspense, good family values, and some pretty scary situations for kids in the story. But beware, this is not for the fearful child since it will feed into those fears.
