Book Description

1 April 2008
When you learn to awaken your family’s creativity, wonderful things will happen: you’ll make meaningful connections with your children in large and small ways; your children will more often engage in their own creative discoveries; and your family will embrace new ways to relax, play, and grow together. With just the simple tools around you—your imagination, basic art supplies, household objects, and natural materials—you can transform your family life, and have so much more fun!

Amanda Soule has charmed many with her tales of creativity and parenting on her blog, SouleMama. Here she shares ideas and projects with the same warm tone and down-to-earth voice. Perfect for all families, the wide range of projects presented here offers ideas for imaginative play, art and crafts, nature explorations, and family celebrations.

This book embraces a whole new way of living that will engage your children’s imagination, celebrate their achievements, and help you to express love and gratitude for each other as a family.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a book for projects or ideas 18 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bought this book after searching through many online offerings and was very dissapointed.
If you're looking for a book full of tales about a wonderfully priviledged, free and easy life then this book is for you.
If however, like me you want a book with ideas, inspirations and projects then forget it, they just aren't there. The fact that it doesn't have an index of projects should have tipped me off but then I guess I'd have to buy it to find that out.
It contains real "gems" of wisdom such as "children really enjoy dressing up" "children love to have their artwork on display"...really?
In all a waste of money and so dissapointing that I don't even think I would pass it on to a friend. Charity shop here we come!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all parents of any age children 30 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is really inspiring. There are so many ideas of what to do to make you and your kids be so much more creative and shows you how to think about activities in a new light. It is really thought provoking just like Amanda's blog. This should be a must on every parents book list as it shows you that expensive battery driven toys, computer games and television aren't the only things to keep your kids amused there are other ways and along the way you may become more creative yourself.

A must read and a great gift to give other parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously inspirational 10 May 2008
Format:Paperback
Brings together all of the things which I love - family, crafting, homemaking, cooking, planting, thrifting etc etc. Never found someone who incorporates into their life all those aspects to which I aspire! Fabulously inspirational - and projects all shown with instructions. My 3 year old has already done some sewing and I've changed the layout in my family room to incorporate a space to get my sewing machine out permanently!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 21 April 2008
Format:Paperback
I honestly love this book. I have just about put it down since it has arrived and have been quoting it to everyone I come across! I've been inspired to look at the way my children play in a new way and to look at them for ideas for various projects I'm involved in! Excellent book much anticipated and it hasn't disappointed! Love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so great 27 Feb 2009
By mac
Format:Paperback
I bought the book on the strength of all the 5 star reviews here, and it is a nice book with a few good ideas. However, as already mentioned there's nothing very new that most parents won't already be doing with their kids. I found the tone tends to be a bit patronising, particularly as, as far as I know, the writer is no more qualified on the subject than any other parent. It would have been nice to have a few more pictures too.

I read and enjoy Amanda's blog and have been longing to read the book ever since I first read of it, but having read it - well, I am a little disappointed - feeling that none of it seemed very new or fresh and that the blog was much better value for money! I would not say we were a very creative family, and reading this book changed my mind. It seems we are!

I felt there was a really sweet tone to the writing - similar to that at the blog - and one gets the impression of a really happy, warm family. Amanda's book is very accessible, and very encouraging but didn't show me anything new, which I am a little sad about. A very big gap is any mention of crafting and creativity around the usual holidays - most parents are looking for inspiration for creating with their children at those times, so it seemed a shame to miss out on some ideas for those times.

If you or the person you plan to give the book to doesn't think to allow a child to display their art, doesn't encourage dressing up, doesn't enjoy playing with their child, doesn't help a child to stick clumsy stitches into a piece of felt, and so on, then this is a great book to get them started. But how many of us is that?
