Product Description

Synopsis

In a world where every material desire can be filled by ready-made, machine-perfect goods, why do some people still insist on doing things by hand? The "Crafter's Companion" is for everybody who loves the world of hand-crafts and anybody who's ever wondered what exactly there is to love about it. An on-line community of skilled artists have come together to answer these questions: Why do you create? What inspires you? And, how do you work? Additionally, each artist has contributed a pattern of her own design, making "The Crafter's Companion" the ideal resource for practical projects and encouraging words.

This book is one of the best craft books I've seen recently, most promise much but don't deliver. This book contains a peek into the world of online crafty bloggers who talk about their crafting lives, their studios and early childhood experiences of crafting. Makes for excellent reading! Then on top of that and the beautiful pictures there are lovely projects to make yourself. What bliss, then when you have devoured the book follow the links to read more online.

Interesting, useful 26 Dec 2006
I loved the style of this book - a collaboration of different crafters describing why they craft, their inspirations and work space. Looking at their creations and workspaces gave me lots of ideas, and some of the projects look really fun, like making a fabric basket to put things in, or a needle case. Unfortunately, there was a lack of projects in comparison to the written sections, and some of these are disappointing. For example, there were instructions for market bags and library totes, which are very similar patterns and abundant online anyway. If you're looking for a book of interesting, original patterns, you might want to look somewhere else. However the book is worth it just for its exciting photography and interesting tips.

Inspirational! 2 Dec 2006
This is a beautiful book, guaranteed to inspire. Each contributor writes a chapter about their influences, inspirations, work-spaces and materials and gives instructions for a project. This book is a sumptuous, rewarding read in itself, but it also gives you the individual crafter's blog addresses which lead on to other inspirational sites. If you are interested in making at all, get this book, it's fantastic!

Different and inspiring
I though this book was a little different in that it does give a small biog on each crafter but that's quite a nice touch. Read more
