This is what I call great 'bubble gum tv'. It's a show that moves at breakneck speed and has plenty of intrigue to keep you watching to the end. It's not without its flaws. The plots have huge holes in them and the acting by the support actors could get you splinters. However, the whole thing is brought together by without doubt the best lead actor I have seen in any TV series. James Spader playing Red, makes The Blacklist so watchable and I would recommend this series to anyone. I can't wait for series 2.
5 stars for James Spader.

Sometimes amusing, occasionally interesting, often entertaining, and usually ridiculous in the way it wraps up complex issues and megalomaniac genius organizations in a single episode. James Spader is enjoyable as a smug informant who knows absolutely everyone and everything criminal and has a solution for everything. I agree with the one 1 star review saying Megan Boone is absolutely terrible in the role of a tough as nails agent. There had to be better choices. This is a good series to just bring the popcorn and not think about too much, but it's definitely not 5 star material in my opinion..

Only way to truly describe this show is joyous. is it a believable show? No. Its a fantasy in many ways, one built on suspense rather than an absolute reality. Are there plot holes? No doubt although some of those I am sure have been left deliberately to fill in later.

The action and characters are watchable and the mystery surrounding Reddington is engaging. The criminal of the week is a way to have something in the immediate for the audience while the long play, the real plot, is happening slowly over the season and beyond.

But ultimately, what makes this show work is James Spader. His performance is wonderful to watch. His character is how I would imagine his Boston Legal character, Alan Shore, if he went completely over to the dark side rather than simply sticking his toe in it every once in a while. The character is by turns charming, sympathetic, compassionate, intelligent, ruthless, hilarious and irredeemable. That Spader is able to bring out all the facets of this character without any of the parts looking alien to the others is a testament to his acting skills.

Great series ... 2 per episode is not good value though Amazon! We watched it on Sky but missed two episodes ... 4 for two episode is a bit overpriced but the show is brilliant!!

the begining of this series I found to be a bit slow going, but spader is teh launchpad for everything. his character drives the show, and If im honest is teh best thing about it. theres even a bit of alan shore ( boston legal) in his character RED.

this show fuses probably 24,homeland, and such shows together into the murky world of inteligence gathering, black ops, organised crime. all based around Red who has a connection with the female FBI agent who doesnt have a clue why. Red just happens to be on teh FBI most wanted list and is willing to give himself up and help the FBI....but only through her. But nothing is what it appears to be

Hopefully that will wet your apppetite. the story lines are better than alot of teh other stuff on teh 45 min format playing at the moment

so if you like your fix with twists and turns, gun fights, murders, executions, intrigue,, Cia agents, russian mobsters, columbian drug laors, revenge, mystery, torture....actually quite alot of torture, and teh ocaisional funny moment from spader then you will enjoy this...probably alot
