The best version 27 July 2008
Format:DVD
I still feel this is the best version of the film, although I did enjoy the series with Gerard Depardieu as well as the most recent version with James Caviezal.
I watched this film as a little girl and became such a fan of Richard Chamberlain because of it. His portrayal as the Count is breathtaking and the supporting cast are all really good. Such a thought provoking story and you feel for the main character Edumund Dante throughout and it is so clever watching him seek revenge on those who imprisoned him. The film inspired me to read the book and this has now become my favourite book of all time.
Richard Chamberlain is also excellent in the Man in the Iron Mask (made around the same time) and again I feel this is one of the best versions ever made. Would definately recommend both films they are excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Richard Chamberlain was just right for the role of Edmond Dantes, who was undeservedly imprisoned for 14 or 15 years by those jealous of his good fortune - his professional career and soon-to-be wife Mercedes -. One feels great empathy for Dantes and the film really takes hold after he eventually escapes from prison, becomes the Count of Monte Cristo, and executes his finely planned revenge on those had conspired against him.

Pretty good 3 Aug 2008
Format:DVD
This was the first 'Count of Monte Cristo' film I ever watched.I had to admit,it was a huge favourite, and still is!If I may have a slight gripe,I just thought the film ended too quickly.I would have liked to have seen a lot more added to it.The French TV epic did this brilliantly, and whilst this effort could never hope to beat that, its still hugely enjoyable!

The Count of Monte Cristo
A good story line with good settings and good acting. An interesting tale of how far one man will go for revenge.

The Count of Monte Cristo
The book is fantastic and spectacular. It is not easy to fit all the happenings of a book into a film but this work is good. I fully recommend it.
