Book Description

The Cougar Diaries Trilogy – Parts I, II & III – and the Prequel

Thinking Women’s Erotica – the Genre that dares to speak its Name!

The Cougar Diaries Trilogy is a fast paced, sassy story of Aoife Brennan, newly separated and struggling with her new life as single mum to her two teenage boys. Set in austerity torn Ireland, Aoife has to struggle to keep her job and her home, to mind her two teenage boys, deal with a recalcitrant ex-husband, mind her aging parents, and to learn to date again.

Her dating exploits in Book One are a mix bag. She is faced with all the insecurities of a woman in her forties, but also with the bravery of a woman who has lived life. This combination creates some sizzling action, hilarious incidents and some sobering moments as she explores her inquisitive sexuality.

Book Two takes up the story. Aoife is now dating and continuing her exploration of herself as a sexual being. However, much as she would like to retire to her ivory tower to contemplate her navel, and other body parts, Ireland in 2013 is a scary place financially. She had to deal with the aftermath of financial meltdown in the country and the impact that has her personally. She also has to deal with series issues faced when dating a younger man.

Book Three poses yet more issues for our brave heroine. She learns that she cannot compromise who she is for another person. This is a very tough road as she is very human, full of hope and desire. Her world is also full of adventure, daring and exploration. She seizes every day and shakes the guts from it. She has a second chance at living and while her path is not clear, she is taking every opportunity that life can offer.

The Prequel is a collection of three stories based on peripheral characters from Book One; the novella was long listed for a Doire Press International Literary Short Story Award in 2013.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it, you won't be sorry 1 Mar. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book had me reading well into the night. I just couldn't put my kindle down, I had to just read another page, then another, then to the end of the chapter.
I loved the main character, you feel sorry for her at the beginning of the book and I found I cared about what happened to her.
A friend told me it was "racy" it definitely was!
There is a strong storyline about Aofie who was trying to build a new life for herself after divorce.
Her friend Trish, who I loved, tried to persuade her into internet dating after a string of dates with people she knew didn't turn out like she wanted them to..
What happens after this you will need to read.
I found it a lot better than Fifty shades and the many many books which are out
All I can really say is buy it, you won't be sorry.
Now I can't wait for part 2!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than 50 Shades but.... 28 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm sure Aoife Brennan has stolen part of my life (oops). A story of a marriage break up and how a 40 something woman reawakens her sex life. Great read but oh dear, let down by lousy spelling, changes of narration from first to third person, calling parents mum and dad and then using their first names and a weak ending. Get past those and a fabulous read, with a lead character that you if you'll pardon the pun want to come out on top.
The story when I wasn't being distracted by the above was believable and funny and I could identify with a huge amount of it so I'll be reading more of what the writer offers.
Aoife please get a better editor or proof reader and you'll get 5 star reviews from me every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, poetic and honest 12 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
When The Cougar Diaries became the most popular book on [...] and stayed there for a record-breaking five days, I set aside a weekend to read the full text.
Although it appears to be erotica, it is in fact a beautifully written slice of life. The Cougar Diaries chronicles the adventures of a Dublin housewife who, five years after being deserted by her husband, decides to experiment with casual sex.

Her trysts, which are fewer than you might think; are described with a level of honesty and humour that renders them almost innocent. We quickly take the side of Aoife on her journey to discover the pleasures which were missing from her marriage. Along the way we learn about the difficulties of raising two teenage boys on your own, while holding down a demanding full-time job and narrowly avoiding redundancy. We also learn about the value of friendship: without the support of her brother and a few close friends, Aoife would soon have been on anti-depressants.

I looked up the name Aoife (it's pronounced ee + fa and the English equivalent is Eva or Ava). It means beautiful, radiant or joyful. Known as the greatest woman warrior in the world, Aoife was the mother of Cuchulainn's (read the legend) only son, Connlach. Aoife Dearg ("Red Aoife") was a daughter of a king of Connacht who had her marriage arranged by St. Patrick himself.

This chimes with the protagonist and narrator, Aoife Brennan. We know she's beautiful because many men are attracted to her (although she never tells us that herself), and there is something brave and almost warrior-like about the campaign she wages to rediscover sex in her early forties.

This is an intelligent, carefully crafted book which tells us how the human spirit can overcome rejection and despair. Only the Mother Grundys among us will object to the graphic, but honest descriptions of sex. This novel is entertaining, poetic and honest. I look forward to part two.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.75 stars- 17 Nov. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
THE COUGAR DIARIES is the first instalment in Aoife Brennan's fictionalized account of her life following the demise of her marriage. The storyline is a culmination of real life and fantasy adventure of a forty something, newly single mother of two teenage boys and her foray into the world of dating, sex and divorce. The storyline is a sexual mixture erotica, BDSM and MMF situations.

Aoife Brennan pulls the reader into one woman's struggles as she tries to enter the world of online dating and the reality of the less than honest profiles. She will encounter a long list of men who are more than willing to fulfill every woman and man's fantasy, and she will be placed in some very precarious situations. And all of this happens as ailing father shows signs of deterioration, her employer seeks to downsize and her ex-husband demands a change in separation agreements. But Aolfie has a plan and hopefully everything will work out in the end.

The Cougar Diaries is a story about one woman trying to reclaim what was lost-her identity as a person and not just as someone's mother and wife. Aoife Brennan takes the reader on a journey that will make you laugh and cry; shutter and sigh; shake your head and wonder why? But in the end, life comes full circle and there will always be a way to find the path you were meant to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than 50 shades 19 Jun. 2013

Ok so I am a bloke and I read alsorts and yes I read this wonderful erotic diary by Aoife Brennan a native of Dublin. Aoife proves that just because you are a divorcee and have have a couple of teenagers at home a certain age you are by no means dead. Yes this book is racy but it is fun also, and uses language that we are more acustomed too - especially if a few of us have been round the block once or twice.

Usually when you has sex in it you are usually expecting it to win the bad sex of the year award. Not in this book, not written for long distance memory like many others - and I hope Aoife doesnt mind me saying - but some one who is still an active particiapant, and good luck to her.

We all have friends like Aiofe's best friend Trish, encouraging and goading her back to life, especially after her boring dates with the butcher, Tescos manager and a charity shop worker. She also finds how some people embelish on the dating profiles onlne. In the book the statement "Men don't change .." how true that is, we all think we are love Gods and an Adonis -pity our mirrors dont work to well.

This is a delightful book a real fun book and searingly honest - Aiofe where have you been all my life?
