Good laughs and good gore. Had me in stitches. Would highly recommend for lovers of black comedy.

It's partly my fault for not reading the box first, but I got about ten minutes into this film before thinking what the... So pausing it, I soon realised from the description that it is a comedy horror. Ok, back to the film with this new information I thought I could view it in that vein but, no, for me it just wasn't funny. Well apart from the villagers at the phone box where I felt like I was watching a pantomine and wanted to shout "they're behind you."
Unfortunately, the story isn't that good either as it takes from so many other horror films that have been done so much better.
The one thing that really saved it for me was the special effects. Where the other parts failed these worked well with some quite original twists to them.
Overall, a very average horror which considering the director, Paul Andrew Williams (London To Brighton) I had expected to be a lot better.
Unfortunately, the story isn't that good either as it takes from so many other horror films that have been done so much better.

The title of this review is the best of a few good belly laughs in this film. Sadly, it is probably one of the highlights of a poor script, which the film suffers from, along with bad editing and in-experienced directing - which shows in the poor comic timing also prevalent here. The plot also really struggles to keep itself afloat, and has to go on tangents to keep itself on track, which shows a lack of imagination and vision. But with a better script and better editing, this would not be a problem. There are also a few scares that do not work, and funnies that don't work, and it is unfortunate that they are obviously meant to work.
As a comedy horror film, it does get the balance right between laughs and scares, though, and there is some deliciously dark humour here. I don't agree that it tries to be both and fails. But there is always something lacking which you tend to keep getting distracted by as you try to put your finger on it. It becomes obvious what it is before long, though, and I have just mentioned them above.
Still, it does the trick - a darkly comic tale, with plenty of gore, and some funny bits. And there are enough nods to legendary horror flicks (Predator, Texas Chainsaw Massacre among many others - even Silence of the Lambs is in there) to keep the horror buff interested, even if nothing else does.
And for the dark comedy buff like myself, there are some beauties like the line I use for the title of this review - which is a classic. To be honest, I would watch it just for that.

The Cottage
This is a very hilarious film that I would recommend to anybody. A very good British made film. Some funny extras on the DVD too.

Almost very good
It's a good film, almost very good. Quite humurous in places, but the film seems to lose it a bit two thirds through once it turns into a halloween slasher flick.
