The Corporate Machine, published by Take2 Interactive is truly a superb game. It offers a superb range of business scenarios, which are easy to "pick up and play". The Direct Action Cards provide an excellent insight into real-life business scandal, and also add humour to the game. (E.G: the advertising campaigns that can be run to discredit opponents).
Games can be played on a variety of continents - some large and some which require transport overseas. The different regions of a continent require thorough investigation - richer areas prefer quality to price, but in poorer areas, price is everything!
The game enables you to design cars, aircraft, computers and even cola! When your company begins, your product will only excel in one area - it is your job to make it excel in all.
For example, whilst a "diet" version of cola improves health, the taste factor will decrease dramatically. It depends on the aims of your company which direction you go in.
Your "base" or "home site" is where your products are produced and where the company as a whole is managed. You can spend some of your money on improving facilities at your site, and you can even build new bases!
At times, your company will be confronted by the threat of legal action from rivals. Effects of this can be deadly - companies have had their values halved with immediate effect.
Researching different zones costs time and money, but is necessary if you wish to sell much of your product. Certain zones are more prestigious, and therefore cost more money. You will always have added support in your home region - this is the area where you built your first factory, and market executives and campaigns can tour areas, promote aspects of your product and discredit opponents.
The "aim of the game" is to have a certain market share after however many years. This figure is around 60 to 70%. Along the way, other companies may collapse and go bankrupt - it is up to you that your company does not do the same. Most games last around fifteen to twenty-five game years and end with two dominant firms.
In comparison to other games of this genre, such as Economic War, Corporate Machine is far better. Many attempts have been made for games to follow a similar plan to this, but Corporate Machine is certainly the only definite success.
To conclude, The Corporate Machine is a truly superb game, which has all the factors needed to succeed. If you like this genre, then do not hesitate to purchase this game. Take2 have provided an excellent game which is waiting to be played.
