Format: Audio CD
June recorded a variety of material ranging from reflective ballads to up-tempo swinging songs, but here she can be heard singing an album of children's songs (Cool school) and an album of re-interpretations of songs from a Broadway show (Do re mi), both of which are generally bright and cheerful.

Recorded in 1960, Cool school features twelve songs, some of which (When you wish upon a star, Baubles bangles and beads, Scarlet ribbons, Ding dong the witch is dead, Swinging on a star) can easily be found on albums and compilations aimed firmly at adult listeners, but they blend in well with the other songs here. Indeed, June seems to have deliberately selected songs that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike. There really isn't any song here that adults should feel embarrassed about listening to. With just four musicians, the Joe Castro quartet, supporting June's lovely voice, the music is simple but effective, never more so than on Swinging on a star. Bing Crosby had the original hit, later followed into the charts by Big Dee Irwin and Little Eva, but June's version is my favorite.

Recorded in 1961, Do re mi features tracks originally written (by Jule Styne, Betty Comden and Adolph Green) and recorded for the Broadway musical of the same name. Five of the tracks are instrumentals, which alternate with the vocal tracks, so there is less here for June's fans to get excited about. There are ten different musicians featured though they never all play on the same track. June's husband Bob Cooper led the musicians while playing tenor sax. None of the songs or instrumentals here are especially famous (maybe the best known is Make someone happy), but there's plenty of good music here.

I waited for ages for the Cool School album to come out on CD.
If this is a childrens'album then it certainly has to be one of the coolest.
I thoroughly enjoyed both albums. Perhaps they are not ground breaking but you will be surprised how they stick with you.
