Biography

2013 marks the 25th anniversary of a certain young band from Glasgow’s first public concert.

That night in March 1988, nobody looking towards the stage of Dundee University students’ union would have been any the wiser about the unknown and unsigned vision before them. A female-fronted quartet with a twangy, gang-like swagger harking back to the pout and punch of Blondie and ... Read more in Amazon's Texas Store

Texas are back after 8 years since last album Red Book. I have to say this is their best album since The Hush in 1999 ! Sharleen's vocals are outstanding on this album. By far best track is Dry Your Eyes. this album has so many different styles of music Soul, Rock n Roll, Sway, rock pop. a must have album. Welcome back Texas.

I have been a Texas fan since the original the original Southside CD. Living in the US, Texas is in my opinion one of the best, most undiscovered, bands there is. I say "undiscovered" as a US perspective. I rarely find anyone who knows who they are here. Even those who listen to the same styles of music are unaware of Texas. I will give them a mix CD and they are hooked.

I have a lot of different music that I listen to. I listen to Texas more that all of the others combined. There is a complexity and a sophistication to there music that you have to listen to appreciate. Amazing that it has been 25 years + since Southside.

I enjoy sharing this band with friends. They are amazed at the sound and quality of the lyrics.

The Conversation is another example of the talent of this group of people.

As XXXL Texas-Fan I was very exited how the new album will be. And I was not disappointed. This sound, this voice!!!, that is truly unique.
Sharleen and the boys always manage to create a new sound, the inner core remains unmistakable, Texas since 1989.
Every song on this album stays in your ears and in your brain, do not want out and leaves a happy and positiv mood.
Sharleen's voice is just a dream!!!
Texas do it again and again, to reinvent themselves, but also to remain true. That this band has fun at music, you can hear it and you can feel it.
Texas - The Conversation is a "must have" for any good music collection!!!
Texas, thank you so much for this masterpiece...

My first Texas buy based on critics reviews and somehow I do not get it!
A lot of the tracks lack emotion, a lot sound the same and therefore I find it so hard to even mention a stand out track because in my opinion there are none!
I really tried to listen to this album but by the second track on the second, third and even fourth complete play through, I was left wondering, what have i missed about this group! The style of singing, the musicianship and guitar playing lacked inspiration and the live CD, when someone has to really beg the audience to clap along to one of their well known songs, I wondered why!
If you are a Texas fan I am sure you will like it. for me, this would not entice me to delve more into the back catalogue and as for future productions, it would take more than the odd good critical review for me to make a purchase

So, I was there at the start in 1989, loving the Southside sound, and their second album, which has almost disappeared from view (Mothers Heaven)is not unlike this new one. The two disc C.D. has some excellent new music from the Band and Sharleen Spiteri has nailed it as she focuses completely on giving a first class performance throughout both the studio album and the sensational live C.D. that accompanies it. Whether it is the album title track, the superb Detroit City, Talk About Love or Big World, the album testifies hand on heart that sometimes an 8-year break is worth-while! Never has Ms Spiteri sounded so invigorated. Very highly recommended.

Of the 3 albums I bought together this arrived first and is my favourite although I would say I am bigger fans of the other two.
The first CD is of new material and has some great acoustic tracks as well as there radio friendly singles.
The second cd is basically a greatest hits live cd with the title track of there new album getting the live treatment too.
Sharleen and the boys are on top form with this great new album.

I "discovered" this band while channel surfing and catching a filmed concert a few years ago. I was stunned by how good the music was how well the band played and mesmerized by the voice of the most natural and naturally gifted front person I have seen in a long time (I'm old enough to have seen/heard Janis and Jimi in concert).
The video was Texas/Paris and it remains one of the best of its kind. Visually and sound wise. This led me on a journey back to the beginning---what wonderful music! Every CD was a winner every video superb.

Sharleen has that elusive quality of looking different in every video/photo. A true natural beauty. But her voice and her ability to sing a song without overloading her performance with vocal gymnastics--she is always in service of the lyrics and melodies--remain the same song after song. Sharleen never gives one the impression she is trying to sound "black" yet her singing is as soulful and from the heart as possible. No one does Al Green justice the way Sharleen does (except Al himself).

And what songs! She and Johnny McElhone are one of the most under rated writing teams in pop history. Ally is up there with the very best guitarists of our times. The work on the original "Prayer for You" is electrifying--early Jeff Beck? Always solid keyboards and drumming.

Why were they never the hit they deserve to have been here in the US?
Timing (the late eighties/early nineties was a weird time in music here) and lack of a cohesive management/PR effort. PIAS (a good move) should be hitting every 50K watter Rock/Contermporary station in Detroit --with "Detroit City."

I can think of a number of fellow PIAS acts that would work on a double bill with Texas.

The story of Texas is near perfect for a documentary………

Is the music business on autopilot?
