Every killer meets his equal. Ray Keene (Cusack), a father who wants to redeem himself in the eyes of his son, is trying to bring Cordell (Freeman), a world-class assassin to justice. All the while, he must protect his son and evade an assassin's team who are methodically hunting them down in the wilderness.

How much longer will I continue to watch films on the basis of John Cusack starring in them? He's always great to watch, but for every Grosse Point Blank or Being John Malkovich there's a Pushing Tin or Americas Sweethearts...it really is luck of the draw what you end up with.
The Contract firmly falls into the latter camp in that it is basically First Blood meets The Fugitive...but minus the tension and plus a diabolical script. Its not a fun film like ConAir but its watchable because Morgan Freeman and Cusack are great actors, but unfortunately nothing they do makes any sense at all. I am writing this review 10 mins after watching it because I know I will have forgotten everything about it tomorrow morning. Even the makers seem to forget what they're doing by the end, and the whole premise for the film - PE teacher (I kid you not)Cusack performing a citizens arrest on fugitive Freeman - just falls by the wayside like a deflating balloon...which, ironically, is the noise I wanted to make as the credits rolled up.

I don't know where to start with this film it was really poor there wasn't really a story. To say you had two very good actors in the film I would be ashamed that my name was on the front of the DVD cover. This could have been a very good film the foundations where set but it lacked that cutting edge and it was very short around about 85 minutes. If the mother-in-law is staying with you over the weekend like mine was and you need to get out the room because you've seen and heard enough of her I suppose it's worth a watch otherwise stay clear.

I'm startled that so many reviewers disliked this film. I watched it on a flight back from China when, really, all you want is a story that holds your interest, and it did that. It has a rather sloppy ending - the Freeman character is not likeable if you consider what he does and why, but he ends up after Cusack's character as a kind of soul-mate and second hero. There is suspense and plenty of action. Cusack acts well and Freeman does his usual gravel-voiced turn implying wisdom, character and a kind of weary superiority, and all of that fits the film well. I liked it, though I wouldn't want to see it twice.

This is quite a good thriller, good direction, universally well acted. While the quality of the story wold not rival Shakespeare it is more than fit for purpose. Read more

No Stars For This One
Would love to start this review with a synopsis but, sadly, there isn't really anything to tell about this film and I find it near impossible to summarise this abysmal story but... Read more

Pointless
If you really like John Cusack, this will just about while away a couple of hours. But it's very predictable stuff. I watched this a few months ago and I can't remember any of it.

Waste of time
It is a very bad film and very disappointing. The plot is boring except a few minutes at the beginning.

This is cringeworthy from beginning to middle
Don't worry about the end, if you have a brain between your ears you won't get that far.

While the plot seems a reasonable enough starting point for an exciting... Read more
