"Chris Barry is back and better than ever." - Jessica Subject, Mark of the Stars

The friendly takeover of CSS Inc. leaves computer executive Chris Barry unemployed, very wealthy and pleased with the situation.

But the hiatus is short-lived...

As a result of his involvement in the recent Vigilante investigation, Barry is approached by Jonathan Addley and invited to join Discreet Activities, a government agency of the clandestine variety,

Accepting, he promptly takes on his first assignment under the guise of an IT consultant, to investigate possible links between a local import business and the murder of its MIS director.

As he discovers the firm is being used to import narcotics, his cover is blown and things get personal, spurring him to show that murderers, drug lords, biker gangs and kidnappers are no match for...

About the Author

I was born in Montreal, Canada, where I still reside with my spouse, Joanne. I completed my studies in human resources, accounting and management at McGill University and worked in various management capacities in the fields of HR and finance for a handful of firms for what seemed like decades, because it was. I should also mention I love pizza, but who doesn't and, in my opinion, nothing rocks more than cooking on the grill. My first stab at writing was in 1995, the result being my first novel, Vigilante. This was subsequently followed by The Consultant (1996) and Mind Games (1997), all of the same series. Professional obligations and other creative interests led me away from writing for a number of years but I found myself busy at the keyboard in 2009 with The Homeless Killer after having finally published my first three novels. I then followed up with 6 Hours 42 Minutes in 2011, also part of the Barry/McCall Series born from Vigilante. In July 2011, I released ASYLUM, my first stand-alone novel and Discreet Activities, my sixth Barry/McCall crime thriller was published in January 2012. I think I'm really starting to like this writing thing. Besides writing, editing and promoting my work, I also spend some artistic energy with my five guitars, oil paints and watercolours. Other passions include cooking (big time with fine wine to go with it, of course), reading, traveling and working out just enough to stay fit. It should also be noted that following several years of practice, I now excel at being cat furniture for Krystalle and Midnight, or so they tell me. 5.0 out of 5 stars one word.. OMG!! 16 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
after very tentatively buying and ultimately being unable to STOP READING 'the vigilante' until its dramatic conclusion, it was a complete 'must have' to purchase 'the consultant' immediately after finishing the first book!

the second book in the series(so far) of 6 books, sees the original characters develop even more than in book one. I'm not here to spoil any part of the book so general details wont even be touched upon..

looking back now i have read all six, this is very probably my over all favourite.
witty, shocking, the descriptives enthralling all the way through..

if i could buy it for all of you i would, as it is, trust me.. buy it now

5.0 out of 5 stars The Consultant 10 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this book. From the moment I picked up my e-book device I was hooked. A few pages was all it took to capture my thirst for adventure, intrigue and lust to read on. I feel that it was very well written with plenty of thought given to the plot-line which kept me guessing until the very end.
There was never a boring moment as Claude packed the novel full of twists and turns. Despite reading what Chris was doing, Claude managed to keep just enough information back from the reader so that when the Vigilante executed his plans it didn't feel like you were repeating yourself.
A brilliant read...5 stars without hesitation from me.
Bring on the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping. 2 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have to say this is the first book of Claude's I have read. I was halfway through before I realised that this was the sequel to Vigilante. *Facepalm* But it didn't detract from the story in the least.

What's that old adage? You can't keep a good man down. It could've, and probably, was written with Chris Barry in mind.

Claude's writing is captivating. His characters are well-drawn and enhance the story as only great characters can do.

Chris Barry retires and despite being a multi-millionaire he gets involved as a consultant at an export business where a director has just been murdered. It's not long before he becomes suspicious of the partners in the firm.

But as his covert operation hots up, something happens in his personal life that puts both him and his wife in grave danger.

I must read for thriller fans.

I better go and read book one now! :-)

Really clever plotting, well defined characters and Bouchard's hard edged writing style make this an excellent read. A highly recommended read.
