3.0 out of 5 stars Basic Guide 23 Sep 2012

I wanted lots of the stories behind the constellations. Some of the stories in this book are very good (quite long), however some are too short and some just have who discovered the constellations. I am still looking for a book which tells me the stories behind the constellations, but overall a good read. It would make the perfect present for a 10 year old who loves the stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet Intriguing 6 Jan 2013

I recieved this book as a gift and am very pleased. I have always been interested in the constelations yet knew very little of their origins. This book explains, in layman's terms, the myths behind many of the constallations. I've read books on the subject before, but none were more concise and easy to understand. I would definately recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great 16 Jan 2014

I loved all of the information present in this book telling the history behind the names of the constellations and I would have loved giving it a better rating but there were so many ways this book that I couldn't. First off, although this is more of a technical issue that a problem, many of the pictures would not show up on my kindle while reading, so even though there was an entire entry for a particular constellation, there was no image showing what it looked like. Another thing that was extremely irritating was the numerous spelling errors, mostly on names of the Greek gods and heroes. I saw were this was mentioned in another review but I thought it wouldn't be much of an issue, turns out I was wrong and it gave me a headache. And I also think this book would have benefited from an map featuring all of the mentioned constellations in correlation with each other in the sky.

There are a few typos, but this is a good book! The problems may be with downloading, so I might try again. I use this text with children and parents at sky watches.
3.0 out of 5 stars Succint book on the Greek constellations. 28 Sep 2013

The book is more like a reference. It does it job pretty well, but I had expected it to give more of an overview of the constellations. I am really not sure of the right way to rate this book.
