Product Description

Despite the best efforts of the Pharaoh Senusret and his generals, the beautiful acacia tree of Abydos is dying. But the beautiful priestess Isis has an idea: to save the 'Tree of Life', a new pyramid must be built in honour of Osiris. Senusret agrees to the plan - but what the pharaoh doesn't know is that a triple conspiracy has been hatched against him. On the one hand, the Herald, the bearded devil who preaches to the desert tribes, has decided to seize power by having the pharaoh murdered. On the other, within Senusret's own court, an ambitious, thieving traitor is plotting to get rid of his master. Finally, Iker the scribe, deceived by appearances, believes that the time has come to settle his scores. Never has the pharaoh seemed so alone or so vulnerable. And never before has the future of Egypt been in such great peril.

"The Conspiracy of Evil" follows on from "The Tree of Life" and basically describes how a group of terrorists, headed by the Herald, want to destroy the Pharaoh and the Egyptian way of life and follow the path of their God. They will stop at nothing in their ends, including destruction and the murder of innocents, and are not afraid to die as they have been told they will go to Paradise. It's very exciting and, like all Mr Jacq's other books, extremely easy to read. Reading it I was constantly reminded of the Muslim extremists who are out to destroy the Western way of life. Their aims and ideals are pretty much the same. So even though the books takes place thousands of years ago I feel it is relevant today.

Not his finest 24 Dec 2007
Format:Hardcover
Firstly let me say I am a huge fan of Jacq, and would give all the other series he has written five stars. This review is for the whole MOO series, as I wait untill all books in a series are released so I can read them one after the other - effectively reading one large book. I therefore have waited impatiently for the last one so I can read them. But I was very disappointed with these books. Firstly I found them for the most part predictable, with similar plots to his other books. Secondly, I felt that there was far too much time spent on descibing rituals etc and not enough effort on the plot. Thirdly, there is far more magic in this series, and whilst there has always been magic in his books, the heroes generally succeed by using their intelligence, not by pulling another trinket out of their pocket to smite the enemy.
As I said, - love Jacq, love egyptology, but this one was a miss for me. Lets hope the new series will be better.

A Good Book 6 April 2006
By Aditya Agrawal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
"The Conspiracy of Evil" by "Christian Jacq" is worthy of being in any fiction reader's collection.

The main story in this book revolves around the following characters: "Sensuret i.e. portrayed as the pharaoh of Egypt", "Iker - An ambitious young scribe from "Madu" which is a province in Egypt, "Isis" - A young and charming priestess who is learning the Mysteries of Osiris at "Abdyos". The other characters are "Medes" - A corrupt official who wants to overthrow the pharaoh and rule Egypt by himself and last but not the least "The Herald" - A powerful and ruthless man who is a devoted follower of "Set" - In Egyptian mythology this god murdered Osirs who was the ruler of Egypt. The Herald is intent on overthrowing the pharaoh and in order to achieve this he plans to foment unrest among the people of Egypt, which would result in a rebellion and even puts a curse on "The Tree of Life" so that "Osiris" cannot be reincarnated.

This is the main plot around which the story revolves.

In my opinion this is a good book and the author has ensured that the reader remains spellbound and cannot leave the book until he has finished it.
