I was looking through for new bedtime stories for me to read with my 6 year old son, and this one caught my eye. It was fantastic!! My son fell asleep after a while......... but I just had to keep on reading to the end of the book, just to find out what happened! I'm now re-reading it so that my son can catch up on the story! It's gripping. I love the characters, the children all have their own individual personalities, which shine through. The story is interesting, and the ending is a really good twist that I wasn't expecting! A thoroughly engrossing yarn that mixes modern day kids and their problems, with an ancient family 'curse'. Excellent.

Bought this on the basis of the Blue Peter book award sticker and was not disappointed. Was a great book to read aloud to my 8 and 10 year olds. They couldn't wait for bedtime to read the next instalment. Thought it might have been a bit scary at the end for the 8 year old but he took it in his stride.

The Considine Curse won the 2012 Blue Peter Book of the Year and I can see why. I began it on the train down to London and finished it on the return journey. It's a fabulous book. Think Lemony Snicket meets The Addams Family for 8-11s. I loved all the characters in this well-plotted, witty and gripping book. That's all I'm saying. No details, nothing. Read it for yourself; you won't be disappointed. Trust me.
