Book Description

1 Jan 1990
Like a pagan god, Rolfe the Relentless rode into Castle Aelfgar to claim it as his prize--and Lady Alice as his bride.  Lauded for his bravery in France, in England he was the hated enemy.  Once ensconced in his new domain, Rolfe became determined to tame the Saxon beauty Ceidre, Alice's illegitimate sister, whose spirit and sensuality make him risk treason to have her--not Lady Alice--in his bed...

Mysterious and seductive, she was no lady but a spy for the rebel cause of her noble half brothers.  Refusing to bow to this arrogant warrior who ignited her forbidden passion, Ceidre was swept into a dangerous liaison tied to the fate of England and kings.  Yet with his kisses on her lips, his skillful hands on her body, she would have to struggle not to surrender to... The Conqueror.

4.0 out of 5 stars sex and sex and sex! 18 July 2002
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was the first book I've read by Brenda Joyce and I think I was slightly disappointed with it. After reading so many five star reviews I have expected a better story.I could understand Ceidre and her thinking and feelings about Rolf the Relentless but understanding the male hero was more difficult. I can't believe that he got aroused all the time he saw Ceidre and couldn't control himself. He was a strong willed warrior used to controlling himself. The storyline wasn't new for me. My favourite Norman invasion novel is Kathleen Woodiwiss's The Wolf and the Dove. It is very difficult to compare The Conqueror to this one. Ms. Woodiwiss is more detailed about the Age and its people and her novel seams more realistic.I gave four stars to The Conqueror because the book wasn't boring and it was full of action and because Brenda Joyce is a talented writer. But there is more erotica in this book than romance and history for my taste.
If you like to read about steamy, hot and very erotic sex scenes and you don't mind that some things are missing you will enjoy The Conqueror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly wonderful 14 Dec 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I love this book. I bought it few years ago and have been reading it again and again. The story is set during the William's prime time and Rolfe is the hero granted the land from Ceidre's family.
There were lots of conflicts in the story that makes it interesting. But what makes it most appealing is the relationship between Rolfe and Ceidre. I love the way Rolfe could not seem to get Ceidre out of his mind.
It is true that this book has lots of sex. All I can say is he is the lord and knows how to get what he wants :)

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like an aggressive hero..... :-) 26 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the first book I had read by Brenda, and I must admit I was torn between loving it and hating it. I was totally flabergasted at the things she put this couple through...and I don't think I've read any romances that the hero was quite so aggressive. By the end of the book I do admit that I loved it, but practically threw my hands up in the air on any number of occasions while I was reading. Anyway, it was good enough to make me purchase 3 more books by her and I just finished "My Dearest Enemy". It was great and another truly unique story by Brenda!

This is a stark, harsh realistically brutal story! Brenda Joyce has a knack for creating pretty harrowing scenarios for her protagonists. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars The only good thing about this book is the epilogue.
I don't know why everybody praises this book so highly, while I found it so terrible. I would sugest some other books with the same settings such as My Lord Conqueror by Samantha... Read more
