Another enjoyable 87th Precinct novel. The fourth I think sees Carella trying to discover who's dumping dead women into the river, at the same time a con man is making the rounds of the city. Could they be connected?. McBain generates a fast pace though perhaps there's a bit too much romantic slush between Carella and his wife, Teddy. However, the murderer is revealed to be a proto-type serial killer and for the time this was written, McBain writes strongly about the murderer's M.O. and the plight of his victims.
