A great reference book for teachers of GCSE and Btec Music. Broken down into sensible chapters which are easy to refer to individually. There are diagrams in written notation and chord symbols. There are references to songs from all genres and across different styles. I will be using this to help me plan GCSE Music and Level 3 Btec. A great resource, glad I have found it.

This book divided in 3 parts for a total of 15 chapters and the content is suitable for a music GCSE/A Level course in popular music styles and composition. Many contemporary exemples in a variety of popular styles are included, as well as plenty of listening and composition exercices, many suggestions for planning lessons and assignements for teachers.
part 1: techniques (rhythm, melody, harmony, structure, instruments, production)
part 2: topics (riffs, songs, islands and continents, club and urban, performing projects for the class)
part 3: project planning ( framework for listening, designing worksheets, schemes of work, the computer in the classroom)

I plan on using this book together with Popular Music (Cambridge Assignments in Music)'.
