It's was incredible feeling just a year back when I suddenly realized that many of my favourite melodies were in fact written by the same man.
Tom Jobims harmonius songs truly come to right in the extraordinary instrumental versions on this cd. His masterful playing of piano and guitar combined with perfect string arrangments makes these instantly recognizable versions the reference works of all of Bossa Nova. People who simply brush this music aside as "Easy Listening" or "Elevator music" misses the point by a hundred miles.
As a melody writer Tom Jobim was a true genius. He has a wonderful way of writing material were even sad and nostalgic themes end on an uplifting and positive note. In these cynical times this makes all his songs gain even more significance. I listen to these songs over and over during every day and I never tire. I feel that I truly have found the soundtrack of my life.
If you like to hear the melodies sung, this album is perfectly complimented by two albums were Jobim collaborated with Frank Sinatra, "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim" and "Sinatra & Company".

Unbelievable! Not a single customer review on this website at the time of writing this...pretty incredible for one of the defining moments of bossa nova. Although most people may say Getz/Gilberto is perhaps the greatest bossa nova album, this has to be in contention. All 12 songs have become standards (how many other albums can claim such an amazing feat?)
The album has been re-released in this incarnation as part of Verve's excellent 'Desert Island Discs' series (I think there are ten or so other albums in this series).
I would strongly recommend this album to bossa nova fans, along with the orginal 'Getz/Gilberto' recording, also 'Jazz Samba' (Getz & Charlie Byrd) and 'Jazz Samba Encore!' (Getz & Luiz Bonfa).
To non bossa-nova fans or anyone who has stumbled across this record by mistake, you have come across a true gem - buy it!
If you don't believe me, check the reviews on the USA site amazon.com!!!
