A good way for children to learn theory for piano up to Grade 2. Easy to understand and enjoyable to do, as in the format of a puzzle book. Children enjoy doing theory practice without even realsing they are learning something!

Music theory book for kids 30 Dec 2007
By P. Murray - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book looking for a theory book for my elementary students in a children's choir in the US. This book has a lot of British terms (ie. crotchet, minim, etc) that will be confusing to American children. The book contains puzzles - mazes, musical addition problems with codes, piecing melodies together, and other types of puzzles. This book is written and intended for "early grades" but I'm not sure that the target audience will have a huge success with it. As a music teacher reviewing this product, I would try this with 4th-6th graders and perhaps some really smart third graders. I think it will require help from an adult to follow the directions accurately for younger children and it is not as self-explanatory as it says it its. I found it a bit confusing, trying the puzzles myself. However, the pictures are cute and it does make elemental learning fun through the activities.
