AVID Entertainment has released Ella Fitzgerald CD's before, and we have released Louis Armstrong CD's before (lots of `em!) but our latest release on the AVID Jazz label is a first.
Ella & Louis together were a formidable partnership, a marriage made in heaven, some would say!
Originally an idea by producer Matt Gabler to connect these two jazz giants together, the idea was picked up by legendary producer Norman Granz (manager of Ella and pianist Oscar Peterson).
What followed was a series of matchless classic albums featuring Ella on vocals, Louis on vocals and trumpet, with Oscar Peterson accompanying them on piano. Ella even insisted that Louis chose the songs!
Among the fine recordings presented on this superbly re-mastered 2CD set you will find the complete classic album "Ella & Louis" together with selections from "Ella & Louis Again" and "Porgy & Bess" alongside a whole host of other wonderful duets.

At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth, I have to take issue with the title of this compilation. Seven of the 19 tracks which comprise "Ella and Louis Again" have been omitted, and only four tracks from the "Porgy And Bess" album are included, as against a total of 16. I cannot understand why someone has felt it necessary to hype a perfectly good product. For what is here is a delight, and purchasers will not be disappointed provided they accept that the contents are less than is claimed. But for that canard I would have awarded five stars.

The audio quality of this edition of the Ella and Lous albums sufferer of a bad job restoring the masters. You can hear some annoying hiss on the high frequency mainly on Louis voice. Not the original noises of the tapes, but a new one caused probably by the digital restoring. Old Verve edition have better quality. The music is great as you already know.

Had a lot of these originally on LP. Enjoyed hearing them again, earlier recordings included were just of historical interest. Pity this was not the complete recordings made in the later period
